Thomas: The main character of the story . Having been sent to the maze last, all he wants to do is prove himself. Brave, Intelligent, and self aware, he never loses hope in their chance of escape.

Chuck: Thomas's best friend in the glade. The youngest of all of the boys Chuck was never comfortable until Thomas showed up. A young, sheepish, lovable, caring little boy that Thomas always found comfort in.

Minho: Keeper of the runners. One of the bravest of all the gladers, he always provails during a crisis. Brave, tough, and a little short-tempered he always has Thomas' back.

Newt: Keeper of the farmers. A kind, no-nonsense, loyal leader of the glade. Has everyone's best interest at heart and never loses hope in escape.

Gally: Keeper of the builders. Never trusted Thomas, and never failed to make his lough hell. He is hot-headed, bully, brave, and scared. He never liked Thomas but always wanted to protect the glade.

Alby: The leader of the maze, who will do anything including sacrificing himself to protect it.

Teresa: The last to arrive to the glade. Sent as the catalyst to the end of their stay there. Is telepathically connected to Thomas and gains only his, and a few others trust. Is she really there to help?

Conflict:

Maze runner has both internal an external conflict. Having to deal with the grievers, harsh conditions, fights with the other gladers, working, and surviving on a daily basis. It puts a physical strain on the body. However most of the conflict comes from within all the gladers. Everyday they all wake up and have to work and survive on the mere hope of someday finding an exit. This especially puts a strain on Thomas after his changing, with all the added pressure to prove himself. He wears everyone's weaknesses as his own and takes all of them on while still trying to be brave. His conflict is emotionally demanding.

Lesson Learned:

In this story you learn that hope is the only thing you need to get you through any tough situation. Whenever the boys are met with another obstacle from the maze and everything seems so bleak, they continue to have hope. In life obstacles will always be thrown into your path, but you always have to overcome them. Thomas is always met with an unfortunate situation, but yet he always is able to dig down deep and push past them.

"Thomas knew he had no choice. He moved. Forward. He squeezed past the connecting rods at the last second and stepped into the Maze. The walls slammed shut behind him, the echo of its boom bouncing off the ivy-covered stone like mad laughter."
