"You can't hide your emotions well" Lu Jian

I think this quote connects to the question by making Billi be emotionally open in the film. Since having emotions is a human thing to have and to express them to show how you feel.

"I decided that my best part would be to wait for a really sunny day and then use my glasses to focus the sunlight on a piece of my clothing and start a fire. I would then make my escape when they saw the smoke and took me out of the cell." - Christopher Pg 14

This shows that the authors use imagery to show how Christopher in the story feels like a real character. By using imagery in Christopher's imagined grand escape from the police holding cell it gives us a better picture of how human Christopher is.

Pg 21

This demonstrates the author connects the character Christopher to the audience by showing the relationship between a parent/guardian and their child. showing the audience the ups and the downs moments between Christopher and his father, showing scenes of them being loving and understanding while showing other sces such as this one where they are arguing.

This was because of the stress of looking after someone who has Behavioral problems like I have.” - Christopher Pg 45

The author is showing Christopher's parents' problems towards the readers in order to focus on what's the cause of these problems between his parents.

Christopher knows why they fight which is why I feel like it makes Christopher more human.

“I don’t feel sad about it. Because Mother is dead...So I would be feeling sad about something that isn’t real and doesn’t exist. And that would be stupid.” - Christopher

This quote demonstrates that Christopher does not understand how to feel empathy or understand human actions. He appears to grasp solely numbers and how they work.

“Mr. Jeavons said I liked math because it was safe. He said I liked maths because it meant solving problems and these problems were difficult and interesting but there was always a straightforward answer in the end. And what he meant was that maths wasn’t like life because in life there are no straightforward answers at the end.”- Christopher (pages 61,62)
This quotation explains that Christopher finds it challenging to understand "typical" human emotions because there are multiple potential meanings of what someone might be expressing.

“I think I would make a very good astronaut. To be a good astronaut you have to be intelligent and I’m intelligent. You also have to understand how machines work. You also have to understand how machines work. You also have to be someone who would like being on their own in a tiny spacecraft thousands and thousands of miles away…”- Christopher (page 50)

Here, Christopher is letting us know that he is quite intelligent and that he doesn't mind being by himself. I believe the author is attempting to show us that Christopher is self-assured and that he is aware of what he wants to do, and will therefore finally do it when the time is appropriate (this time is when chistopher himself feels like the timing is correct)

“And then I will get a First Class Honors degree and I will become a scientist. And I know I can do this because I went to London on my own, because I solved the mystery of Who Killed Wellington? and I found my mother and I was brave and I wrote a book and that means I can do anything.”- Christopher (page 221)

This quotation demonstrates the character's growth. I say this because it's clear from the beginning/middle of the book that Christopher is confident, but that he lacks a certain sense of independence. With everything that Christopher had to deal with, this writing that the author provides to wrap up the novel demonstrates that he now has the independence that he was lacking.
