The Byzantines, who were Christian, lost

The word crusade comes from the Latin word crux, meaning "cross.

The Second Crusade was the second major crusade  from Europe as Catholic holy war against Islam. 

There were seven major crusades and several minor ones spanning from 1096 to 1291.

Deteriorating relations between the Crusaders and their Christian allies in the Byzantine Empire culminated in the sack of Constantinople in 1204 during the Third Crusade.
