This is a metaphor because it is connecting two things and it does not use like or as. This quote means that sometimes in life, you have to make a decision on something that will prevent you from trying something new or missing out on an opportunity. In the movie Pocahontas, her father wants her to marry a soilder and not the man that she is in love with and Pocahontas is very upset about this but she understands why her father is making this decision, no matter how sad she feels.

It is a simile because the song talks about how Taylor Swift thinks karma is sweet as honey. Taylor believes that you should always do the right thing because if not karma will come after you. This quote gives us a little bit of information on Taylor's view of life.

This is a metaphor. It uses the phrase "When the chips are down" as a way to say "When things get hard and are going poorly" as the phrase means you are doing poorly in the game poker. When he says "they'll eat each other" he's talking about how the morals that people claim to have don't mean anything, and that they'll stab each other in the back and betray the things they said they believed for their own personal gain if the situation isn't convenient. He's saying that people are willing to take from others despite whatever they have said in the past. The quote compares doing badly in poker to people doing badly in life. This quote illustrates that in the end, when things aren't going their way, people are selfish, greedy, and cruel.

This is a simile. The comparison is Katy Perry to a dark horse. A dark horse is a person who unexpectedly wins or succeeds. It is almost a threat or a warning, saying she is a winner and is powerful.

This simile compares the person the artists is talking about as a firefighter and Astrid as the fire. This demonstrates that the person is fighting her off like they are rejecting her love. However, like a fire, they still get burned which means that even though they don't want her love it still hurts them inside. This simile is important because it illustrates how both sides in the relationship is hurt which sets the mood in the song that both sides are dealing with the pain of the break up of the relationship.

This is a simile, and while it's possible to compare the "diamonds in the sky" as the stars themselves, shining so brightly up there in the night sky, there is another way to interpret this. In the core of some planets, it is thought that there are many precious stones, including diamonds, so, she may be communicating that once you get past the hard layers, something beautiful waits inside, representing the light and beauty inside people.

When I think of this, I can imagine the desperate need to be ready for war in the movie.

This is a metaphor. It shows how people will get pushed down continuously but sometimes are able to come back, like a 90s trend. These '90s trends' have the ability to come back stronger than they were originally which is the same case when it comes to people.
