Every year I change things around to better accommodate my learners and their needs. However, due to the mounted projector and the interactive board, the positioning of the desks is somewhat limited, since the board tends to be a focal point. As a solution, one year I grouped the desks by four and spread out as much as I could to make it easier for students to move around. Another idea is to allow artistic students to utilize their creative powers and design much needed posters. Based on their interests and requests, I design curriculum for that semester. I am not denying that there isn't any time for working with others, but just not enough. I think a really simple solution is to allow teachers to collaborate with other team members (not just at their school or maybe not just within the county) as well as the specialists. Going from Gen. Ed teacher to a Specialist teacher has shown me that there is a huge gap between the two. I think its important that the specialist teachers have time to meet with the Gen. Ed teachers and work together, co-plan, co-create, co-design those project based learning projects.
