         <description><![CDATA[<div>~In 1940, Vonnegut entered Cornell University as a chemistry major.<br>~He dropped out in 1943 and enlisted in the United States Army.<br>~In Europe, he was captured by the Germans and imprisoned in a meat-locker called Schlachthof-Fünf, or Slaughterhouse Five.<br>~He was liberated by Russian Army soldiers in May 1945.<br>~Vonnegut began to write. He published his first novel in 1952.<br>~For the rest of his life, Vonnegut fought depression and PTSD from his experiences.<br>~He died on April 11, 2007, at the age of eighty-four.<br><br></div>]]></description>
