This was like my excuse to finally research it in depth. Something new that I learned was that the captain, William Thomas Turner, ignored warnings from the British. It's really interesting how things can turn out. This project changed my original perspective about this topic because I can't even imagine being in a ship that's about to sink. Especially since drowning is one of my personal fears. The British beforehand had warned the Lusitania to avoid the south coast of Ireland. This was because there were reports of sinkings of merchant ships and submarine activity around that area. William Thomas Turner, the Lusitanias captain, ignored these warnings. Later that afternoon at 2:15pm, the Lusitania was struck with two torpedoes from a German U-boat. About 1,198 people, 128 of those being U.S. citizens, had all drown within 20 minutes. This picture is of a drawing part of the Anthony Richards' collection.
