Carnaval de Barranquilla (Carnival of Barranquilla) is one of Colombia's most important folkloric celebrations, and the second largest carnivals in the world. This carnival dates back to the 19th century, with more than a hundred years of tradition. This festival runs for four days and Colombians and visitors party in the streets in a brightly colored celebration of Colombian culture. During the carnival, Barranquilla's normal activities are put aside as the city gets busy with street dances, musical and masquerade parade. In 2002, Carnival in Barranquilla was declared a Colombian National Culture Heritage.
