This is my Mommy Carol with my two kids, Briana and Liana. My mom was diagnosed of Cervical Cancer last 2021. It wasn't all easy, from being a daughter who had to be strong during the time my mom was going through chemo and facing my children with a smile and saying everything would be fine. I witnessed my mom fighting this cancer, hoping and praying that everything goes well. But in the last month of 2022, my mom's cancer suddenly reached the terminal stage and died on the 30th day of December. And her last words is this " Wag mong pababayaan ang mga anak mo, ituloy mo pa din ang mga pangarap natin para sa dalawang bata at magtitiwala ka palagi sa Panginoon" Rest well Mommy with the Lord. Pangakong magiging malakas at matatag katulad mo. Happy Mother's day to both of us :)

- Claire Espeleta, PMO

The Beauty & Complexity of a Mother and her Daughter

This is me and my mom way back in 2001. Just for some background, my mom is a teacher for almost 30 years. I grew up without her being around much because she is teaching at a public school, with a lot of students and a lot of work, even on weekends. What they say is true—being a teacher isn’t just Monday to Friday; on weekends, you're making lesson plans and preparing materials for teaching. Others also say, “You’re lucky your mom’s a teacher, natuturuan kayo.”

There was one time we had an argument. I was a young adult then and I answered her, “buti pa ibang bata may time ka, buti pa ibang bata pinapansin mo, buti pa ibang bata tinuturuan mo.” And this is what she said that I will never forget for the rest of my life and it really stuck with me: “Sila kasi kailangan nila at hindi nila kaya. Ikaw kasi nakikita kong kaya mo kahit hindi ka turuan. You’re smart, and more than that, you’re brave enough to discover things on your own.” And that hit me. What she told me, I understand it now, kasi kakailanganin ko pala ngayon na adult na rin ako.

One day, if I will have my own children, I’ll pass on to them the lessons my mom taught me because it has been such a huge help in shaping who I am today.

To my mom, I know you won’t read this, thank you is not enough for all the sacrifices. You deserve all the good things in this world. As you said, no parent is perfect, but there are parents who make the effort to be perfect. I love you so much, Ironheart! (Ironheart girl version ni Ironman kasi may bakal siya sa kamay HAHA love u mom!)

Advance Happy Mother’s Day to all supermoms out there! Dabest kayo!

- Eya Torreflores, SCM

It's me and my mama around my birth up until my 2 years of existence. You wouldn't believe me na behind those smiles looms a fierce mother na itataguyod ako sa kung ano ako ngayon.

Just for reference I've also included yung photo ni mama just 2 weeks after my birth (mind you caesarean pa sya nyan, tho lahat kaming magkakapatid is same ng birth method) I'm thankful na mama endure the pain of having for 9 months and I respect her courage to pull through a 3 day labor just to open up her belly (literally) to bring me to life.

I would like to take this opportunity to write a thankyou letter for my Mama, I'm not a vocal person pag dating sa ganto specially sa family ko kaya dito ko nalang ibubuhos.

I'm grateful, for all the "Mama Reminders" you engrave into me since bata pa ko. Na always arrive early in every appointment, to do everything na I can do at the moment, always bring essentials in every alis, and every tiny bit of my habits that I have now as a young professional. Now I'm adult na, I think I can do the reminders na pag set up sa new phone nyo, sa queries nyo regarding credit cards, pag remind ng do's and dont's sa online shopping, and many more pa in the future.

I'm thankful for all the meal plans and sagot nyo sa everyday question naming mag kakapatid na kung anong ulam. I know na it's daunting to think of a meal for us specially super picky pa namin kahit si papa, but you never failed to impress us na you can think, cook, and prepare our breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. Thats what inspired me to learn how to cook, so someday I can serve you the same way na ginawa nyo sakin for almost 24 years, start lang muna tayo paado-adobo at menudo saka na yung ibang complicated na dish pag medyo gumaling galing na haha.

I appreciate your resilience, na kahit anong hirap ng buhay still never po kayong sumuko.

I love you mama, and Happy Mother's Day!

From: Lancelot J. Giron - SCM

Mother’s lAve: A Tale of Two Highways

Being a mother is like driving on a highway and going to a place where you haven’t been. It is a journey of unnecessary roadblocks, unexpected detours and unforeseen U-turns until you eventually reach your desired destination.

Growing up, I was used to driving through a type of motherly lAve. that is distant physically but emotionally connected. Since I was five years old, my mother has been working as an OFW. Oftentimes, she was absent during some of my important events, like birthdays, graduations, Christmas day and New Year’s Day. Despite that roadblock, my Mama tried to drive through it and made her way through to shower me with enough love and care across the globe. This is as if my mother was with me although out my childhood, teenage years and even in adulthood. Her expressway of love was give us to proper education, pasalubongs and gifts during special occasions. Due to that fact, I grew up to be independent and resilient which came in handy during my high school, college and until now that I have my own family.

When I had my son, the avenue that I chose was the exact opposite of what I have received from my Mama. The way I showed my love for my son Ethan was the always present road, the stage mom highway and the overly supportive mom path. My husband and I also exposed him to life by taking him to different places to allow him to see the world on a different perspective. Watching my son grow up, I also understood the true essence of being a mother. And that is, no matter how ugly the road looks, no matter how many roadblocks and U-turns you face, you will try your best to take him to that destination.

I understood my mother so much that despite the differences in the lAve that we took. It was always about the destination – a child who is loved unconditionally, well-guided and nurtured.

Shiela May D. Urbano - PMO

Sablas—my firstborn.

His name holds a beautiful meaning:

KEON means “God is Gracious”, from the God same root as John.

RAFAEL means “God has Healed”, and is the name of one of the archangels.

Before I had him, I experienced the loss of an angel.

I had a miscarriage and it was the most painful thing I’ve ever been through. I even asked God, “Why?” I cried every day. It drained me mentally, physically, and emotionally. Seeing other pregnant women brought back all the pain.

What they say in movies is true , when the doctor told me there was no longer a heartbeat, everything around me faded. It felt like I couldn’t see or hear anything. I was completely broken.

But when Keon came into my life, he healed that pain.

I treasure him deeply, and I thank God every day.

Some of the questions I once had were answered through him.

Sometimes, we need to experience pain to truly appreciate and treasure all the blessing.

To every struggling mother out there you are seen, we are strong.

We were blessed with a newborn son 13 years ago, and that was one of the most wonderful years of our lives. But precisely 13 years ago, we were put to the test as we went through traumatic events where my baby needed surgery for a hernia two months after I gave birth and had a left nephrectomy (removal of the kidney) a year later. After my son had several surgeries, our entire world fell apart. Sleepless nights, tired eyes, and all the rest. However, our faith has remained unwavering.

After 8 years, we were blessed once more with a son. Motherhood has never been this rewarding. But occasionally, I feel like I fall short in my role as a mother. Neither was it ever hard or simple. But it's all worth it when you see your children happy. I simply want my kids to learn and internalize the five F's of life: Faith, Family, Friends, Fitness, and Finances. To have a good life, hopefully, one must uphold one's trust in God, have solid relationships with loved ones, form friendships, take care of one's health, and handle one's finances with our help.

To all moms out there, it’s okay to fall apart, you’re going through a lot. Rest if you need to. Cry if you must. But never forget --- You are not alone, You are enough, You were made for this. Let’s keep going.

Happy Mother’s Day!

From a daughter to a mother: Embracing the legacy of love and responsibility

It began with me being a daughter — loved, guided, and nurtured — who grew into a mother, now offering that same love and guidance to her own child. It speaks to the emotional continuity between generations: how the care she once received now shapes the way she cares for others. The phrase “embracing the legacy” reflects how love and responsibility aren’t just duties, but sacred values passed down through time — something she now carries with grace and deep devotion.

Now that I am a mother myself, I understand more deeply the love, strength, and sacrifices my mother made for me. The sleepless nights, the quiet worries, the endless patience — I feel them now in my own heart. And with every tender moment I share with my child, I think of my mother with even greater gratitude.

AARA NICOLAS

SCM

For as long as I can remember, my mom has always been hands-on with everything at home. When we were kids, it was even more admirable—she managed to do it all while working at the office every day. We never heard her complain, and she never forced us to help. She’s always been so selfless.

Now that I have a child of my own, she’s become our partner in raising and caring for him, since both my husband and I are working. We feel so lucky that out of all her grandchildren, it’s our son she gets to spend every day with.

Every night, we pray that God keeps us healthy and safe—especially our Mommy / Wowa / Uwa—so we can all continue to love and guide our child as he grows.
