The First Crusade was a major war started by Pope Urban II to conquer Jerusalem and “free” it from Muslim control. The Pope was apart of the Christian religion and was the head of their church, and the pope did not like them what so ever. For example, “The people of Christian Byzantines were involved in conflicts with the Muslims since the 1060’s” (Briffett 1).

Pope Urban II during his speech said that Muslims were, “enemies of God”.
The First Crusade was mainly 1096-1099 but there was tension between the Christians and Muslims before they initiated the war.
The most notable siege happened in Jerusalem from June-July of 1999.
Almost every type of troop and even civilians that these religions had were fighting. Some of the troops were knights, Cavalry, and infantry like archers and crossbowmen. For example, “All types of people including women and children were sent into unfamiliar territory” (Briffett 2)

Originally Jerusalem was in the hands of the Christian’s but was taken over by the Muslims. So they got it back during the first crusade but in the end the Christian’s ultimately lost it.
Jerusalem was endured by many Islamic rulers and they persecuted most of Jerusalem until the Muslims and Christians started the crusade.

All though the Christians won this first war with the Muslims and put a good puncture into their army, they need to be prepared for the next ones in time, so they wouldn’t lose Jerusalem and possibly more land.

When the Muslims first took Jerusalem, it was a “prolonged siege”. And the leader at the time signed a treaty to have religious freedom for Christian’s and Jews.
During the crusade, women had to get weapons and armor to not only defend themselves, but to convince the men to stay and fight.
Over 1000 peasants at the time, were looked down upon and were derided in different writings.
