My personal experience/feelings of art education:

Personally, my experience in the arts—specifically music—shaped and continues to shape who I am. Music was the place where I found my voice, where I learned how to persevere, collaborate, and to communicate with words & music. I belief in the value of music education is why I’m making this life change to teaching music. Ultimately, I want my students to have the same opportunities I enjoyed: to feel seen, to connect to something bigger than themselves, and to discover what they’re capable of through creativity.

What stuck with me the most from the video is how art education helps students think creatively, express themselves, and build important life skills—yet it's still not treated as a priority in many schools. It was surprising to see how often the arts are cut, even though they clearly support student growth. The video made me realize how important it is to stand up for the value of the arts in education.

It's shocking how much our divergent thinking skills decrease from age 5 to 15.

I love how art teaches risk taking and resilience.

As a parent volunteer I taught Art Literacy lessons in my sons’ Bellevue Washington elementary school! It was so easy! Parents got a one hour training how how to teach a lesson and then spent a couple hours in class leading the activity.

Kindergarteners have the capacity to think creatively at the genius level but the rate decreases from 98% to 2% as we follow those kids into adulthood. We aren't fostering children's creativity and as a result, they're losing it.

Something that stuck with me the most was the fact that most of us lose our imagination/creativity as we get older.

In high school a teacher put up a black dot and asked us what we saw then compared it to what 5/6year olds said.

Rebecca- What really struck me was the relationship between creativity and invention. I have been really fascinated by how everyday objects were invented lately, and without more creativity we would all still be using chamberpots!
