Recently he participated in an egregious situation that will likely lead to serious disciplinary action - so, I am hoping to walk alongside the family in the process and also advocate for possible addition support (and fixing Synergy!)

I have seen support staff learning students' names (they don't have the students in class) in a moment of strength for the student, recognizing the student for something positive that they are doing. This way, the relationship starts on a positive note and students know that we are looking for the good things that they do. Even though later, we may need to interact in more difficult circumstances related to student discipline or mental health.

Several teachers at my school take the opportunity to incorporate a cultural lens throughout their instruction. I think this can be an important component to makin a student feel more seen in the classroom as well as enhance rapport and trust with their instructors. The Equitable Practices Tool is a great reminder (when used) to teachers to take time to reflect on the student/teacher relationship on an ongoing basis, ensuring that they continue to find ways to make instruction relatable (which is a great way to enhance learning) to all the varied backgrounds of their students.

I think this can be very helpful in informing decisions, particularly as it relates to special education. We likely stop short at what we believe to be the obvious, which informs recommendations that are not specific to the individual, their experiences, and their backgrounds. In the future, I can be more mindful to use the lens as an integral part of conceptualization when informing decisions on how best to support students.
