From the beginning, Duncan seems like a kind and praise-giving character. He appreciates Macbeth and all the soldiers. At times though, he seems weak, especially when he is murdered as a guest.
Quote: "Signs of nobleness, like stars, shall shine/On all deservers. From hence to/Inverness,

And bind us further to you" (I.iv.42-44).

These sisters guide Macbeth, and in turn many others, to their death by their prophecies. They predict that Macbeth becomes King of Scotland and Thane of Cawdor and that Banquo has kings as offspring. They may have said futures that truly would not happen only to cause chaos. These characters add suspense and the supernatural to the play.
Quote: "Fair is foul, and foul is fair" (I.i.12).

Banquo is a noble character who has a good sense of mischief. From the start, he know the witches are up to no good and that Macbeth planned for evil. Banquo is a central character because of readers can look to him as a protagonist. He also appears as a ghost which haunts Macbeth.
Quote: "I fear/Thou played’st most foully for ’t. Yet it was said/It should not stand in thy posterity" (III.i.2-4).

Shakespeare shows the wife of Macbeth as more ambitious than Macbeth himself. She desires glory and power, even willing to murder her own son. He calls upon spirits to make her more man-like in order to carry of the murder of Duncan. Lady Macbeth may be ruthless, but her character is most astonishing. Every aspect of her words and actions can be analyzed.
Quote: "Unsex me here,/

And fill me from the crown to the toe top-full/Of direst cruelty" (I.v.31-33).

Of course, the one the play is named for has a unique personality. In the play, he murders many and assumes kingship to fulfill his "destiny." Macbeth indeed throws kindness to the wind, but his actions are affected by his utmost trust. He has faith in the witches as well as his wife. However, this makes him easier to convince. Many could argue that Macbeth is only the host for Lady Macbeth's desires.
Quote: "Stars, hide your fires;/Let not light see my black and deep desires" (I.iv.52-53).
