MEDICINE (penicillin)
In 1929 Alexander Fleming, a scottish trained bacteriologist, published his finding about penicillin, an antibiotic agent. The scientist discovered this antibiotic when he noticed that a plane culture of Staphylococcus had been contaminated by a blue-green mold. Then he realised that the colonies of the bacteria near to the mold were disappearing. He decided then to grow the mold in pure culture to prove that the bacteria could be dissolved with the mold Penicillium notatum. People started using it in 1942 to heal many infections Penicillin was one of the big discoveries of the XX century changing the course of medicine and saving many lives.
