Before photography was created, people already knew the principles of how it eventually got to work. They could process the image on the wall or piece of paper, however no printing was possible at the time as preserving light turned out to be a lot harder task than projecting it. The instrument that people used for processing pictures was called the Camera Obscura (which is Latin for the Dark Room) and it was around for a few centuries before photography came along.
camera Obscura is essentially a dark, closed space in the shape of a box with a hole on one side of it. The hole has to be small enough in proportion to the box to make the camera obscura work properly. The way it works is that due, to optical laws, the light coming through a tiny hole transforms and creates an image on the surface that it meets, i.e. the wall of the box. The image was mirrored and upside down, however, so basically everything that makes today's analogue camera's principles different to camera obscura ones are the mirrors and the film which is used to capture and preserve the image created by the light.

Serifs are the small traces on the ends of the characters on the letters of the typeface. A serif font has these small traces, a sans-serif font doesn’t.
Historical knowledge tells us that we should always use sans-serif fonts for titles, headers, and different brief blocks of textual content, and serif fonts for the principle physique of the document. The reasoning behind this has to do with the aim of the serifs. The serifs on the letters are designed to tug the textual content collectively, making it simpler to your eye to transition from one letter to the subsequent, then from one phrase to the subsequent. In impact, the serifs ‘pull’ you thru the document, and in doing so make the textual content simpler to learn. Subsequently, lengthy blocks of text will likely be simpler to learn if they’re written with a serif font. Sans-serif fonts work nicely in short blocks of bigger textual content, what you’ll usually discover in titles and headings.
Typical serif fonts are:

Times, Times New Roman

Courier, Courier New

Georgia

MS Serif

Typical sans-serif fonts are:

Arial

Helvetica

Tahoma

Verdana

MS Sans Serif

The joining of two or more letters for optical purpose,a feature common in metal setting but less so with photosettings, where the enlarged character set thus required is undersirable for the manufacturers. There are signs, however, that ligatures are returning with digital typography.
Ligatures fall into two categories: standard and discretionary. Standard ligatures are designed to solve the problem of neighboring characters that either collide or combine in unattractive ways. Discretionary ligatures are more decorative in nature and are intended to be used at one’s discretion, thus the term discretionary.
Reference: “20th-Century Type” by Lewis Blackwell.

Described as the “master conjurer of the instantly familiar,” Scher straddles the line between pop culture and fine art in her work. Iconic, smart, and accessible, her images have entered into the American vernacular.
In the mid-1990s her landmark identity for The Public Theater fused high and low into a wholly new symbology for cultural institutions, and her recent architectural collaborations have re-imagined the urban landscape as a dynamic environment of dimensional graphic design.

This types have an amazing composition recognizable for its unique visual characteristics, its geometric rounded shapes combined with elongated letters and vertical decorative line details.
Unlike other type movements, Art Deco as a style was created by one designer only, A.M Cassandre.( plese look at the link) A.M. Cassandre was a multi-disciplinary painter, commercial poster artist and typeface designer. He did the logotype YSL.
Also I´m a big fan of Art Deco, essential when we speak about Gustav Klimt, with all textutes, colours, characters, expressions. We can see too how art decor changes the architecture from the world. Is like an way how to see the world. More classic. And is funny, because I´m someone who like minimalism, not so much details how we have in Art Deco. The rise of authoritarian leaders, nationalism, and a host of destabilising force suggest that democracy and freedom are in jeopardy. Irrational, egocentric behaviour from the world's most powerful leaders has ignited fear and demoralising apprehension .
Shigeo Fukuda

Shigeo Fukuda (February 4, 1932 – January 11, 2009) was a Japanese design prodigy and creative multi-potentate as a sculptor, graphic artist, and poster designer. Most importantly, Shigeo Fukuda was greatly influential as a designer of optical illusions.

Growing up surrounded by toys helped him develop an appreciation for creativity and aesthetics. As a young post-war designer, he was intrigued by the minimalist Swiss school of design. While at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts in the mid-50s he developed a minimalist and simple style that became part of his defining look.
During the 1960’s, Shigeo Fukuda became deeply intrigued by illusionism. He began writing a column on visual magic in the Ashai Newspaper called “Ryu Mita Ka?” (Have you seen the Dragon?). He also ran Idea Magazine’s Visual Circus, which was a bi-monthly magazine that showcased entertaining visual illusions. In these roles, he became the expert and a master designer of illusion. Here is a great quote from him on the topic of illusion:

“I believe that in design, 30% dignity, 20% beauty and 50% absurdity are necessary. Rather than catering to the design sensitivity of the general public, there is advancement in design if people are left to feel satisfied with their own superiority, by entrapping them with visual illusion.”

During the span of his career, he created thousands of posters. The use of simply lined illustration and repetition of form combined with illusion has been emulated by many graphic and motion graphic designers. You can see a Fukuda influence in this Pet Shop Boys video by Han Hoogerbrugge.

The founding members were Pierre Bernard, François Miehe, and Gérard Paris-Clavel. They were joined by Jean-Paul Bachollet in 1974 and by Joseph Beuys‘ student Alex Jordan in 1976. The group’s work was motivated by solidarity with the protesting workers, a critical stance towards capitalism, the goals of the international peace movement, and the belief that art and design can contribute to social change. The collective rejected commercial advertising and mainly worked for the Communist Party, the union CGT, for social organizations, communes, cultural institutions, and as of 1981 for governmental ministries as well. The group broke with visual habits and created highly innovative and sensual graphic designs using handwriting, blurred photographs, stains and various collage elements. At the beginning of the 1990s, the collective dissolved but the unconventional image language they had created continues to have an effect until today.

Barbara Kruger is best known for her silkscreen prints where she placed a direct and concise caption across the surface of a found photograph. Her prints from the 1980s cleverly encapsulated the era of "Reaganomics" with tongue-in-cheek satire; especially in a work like (Untitled) I shop therefore I am (1987), ironically adopted by the mall generation as their mantra. As Kruger's career progressed, her work expanded to include site-specific installations as well as video and audio works, all the while maintaining a firm basis in social, cultural, and political critique. Since the 1990s, she has also returned to magazine design, incorporating her confrontational phrases and images into a wholly different realm from the art world. Associated with postmodern Feminist art as well as Conceptual art, Kruger combines tactics like appropriation with her characteristic wit and direct commentary in order to communicate with the viewer and encourage the interrogation of contemporary circumstances
The economy of Kruger's use of image and text facilitates a direct communication with the viewer. Within a short declarative statement, she synthesizes a critique about society, the economy, politics, gender, and culture.

Kruger merges the slick facade of graphic design with unexpected phrases in order to catch the viewer's attention using the language of contemporary publications, grapic design, or magazines. Rather than attempting to sell a product, her works aim to sell an idea to the viewer that is meant to instigate a reconsideration of one's immediate context.

The military regime

In Brazil we had the Military Regime
1964 and 1985, the military was in direct command of the state, imposing indirectly elected generals as president. After overthrowing the reformist center-left government of João Goulart on March 31, 1964, the military installed a tutelary authoritarian regime to control civil society and the political system, serving as a political model for similar regimes in Latin America during the Cold War.

The military passed arbitrary laws and severely repressed left-wing political groups and social movements while also seeking to accelerate capitalist development and the “national integration” of Brazil’s vast territory. They intended to modernize Brazilian industry and carry out bold infrastructure projects. On the other hand, they faced strong opposition from civil society, led by political groups, artists, intellectuals, and press outlets of diverse ideological backgrounds (Marxists, liberals, socialists, and progressive Catholics). These groups were divided between total refusal to negotiate with the military and critical adherence to the policies of the generals’ governments, composing a complex relationship between society and the state.
With all this, protest themself against to the Military, was hard, the torture was for everyone who try to declare. A lot of people died, or vanished. But with time, and so much pain, the people wanted to protest.
But even all this things passed, have some brazilians who say the Military Regime was good for us, and they want again. With all this discrimination and censure. So is for this I´ll to the manifest today, against the candidate similar than the militars.
#elenao

"My main satisfaction is that film had an effect on the audiences, and I consider that important...I feel it's tremendously for us to be able to use the cinematic art to achieve something of a mass emotion. And with Psycho we most definitely achieved this. It wasn't a message the stirred the audiences, nor was it a great performance or their enjoyment of the novel. They were aroused by pure film."
-Hitchcock
On MIS, the expostion is about the personality bihind Alfred Hithcock, and how he created one persona who go far.

The third volume in the New York Times bestselling Wes Anderson Collection series showcases the best artwork from “Bad Dads,” an annual exhibition of art inspired by the films of Wes Anderson.
Curated by Spoke Art Gallery in San Francisco, “Bad Dads” has continued to grow and progress as a dynamic group exhibition since its inaugural show in 2011, and has featured work from more than 400 artists from around the world. Those artworks range from paintings to sculptures to limited-edition screen prints and vary greatly in style, making for a diverse and lively show each year. Though each piece is distinct in its own right, the artworks’ unifying element is the shared imagery and beloved characters from Anderson's many films.
The book features an original cover by graphic artist Max Dalton, a foreword by writer and director Wes Anderson himself, and an introduction by TV and movie critic Matt Zoller Seitz, author of the bestselling Wes Anderson Collection books.
A visual treasure trove, Bad Dads grants fans of Wes Anderson another creative avenue to explore his inspired worlds and movies.

In Coup, your goal is to be the last player standing. Each player starts the game with 2 influence, represented by facedown character cards. Each turn, a player can take an action from either a set list, or a special action based on what character cards they were secretly dealt. The key is, players can lie about which character they have. However, if you are caught in a lie, you will lose an influence (character card). Although if it turns out you weren’t bluffing, then the accuser loses an influence. If a player loses both of their characters, they’re out of the game. Whoever is the last player to have a character card left is the winner.
This is a card game who I really like to play, first because is really easy, the art is simple but so artistic, and gave a valour to the artiste.

Polar night was all encompassing, so the few instances of white nights have been momentously recorded in the town's history. Yet, through the drifting of time and space, various countries have rewritten La Town’s history, and details have been neglected. Now, the story of the small town’s past - love affairs, politics, life, demons and disasters - have all been sealed beneath the museum’s vitrines, the historical “specimens” becoming an authoritative but limited interpretation of this town’s history.
- Cao fei
She really carrys about the others life, stranges people life.

Futurism was mainly characterized by a break with art and culture of the past, celebrating progress and modern technology, urban life, speed and energy to the point of exalting arms and violence. The members of this style were the great disseminators of the movement, using lectures and publicity to give visibility to this style.
Frequently in Futurist paintings appear vibrant and contrasting colors, geometric shapes, overlapping images beyond the use of what futurists called lines of force. The use of these resources was intended to give an idea of a dynamic scene, that is, the object in action. The idea of vigorous movement and speed was central to the poetics of Futurism.
This piece by Umberto Boccione clear can desmotrated how the futurist changes everything, because this peice was inspered on Rodin pieces, but the futurist wanted to exageret on the movement idea, like how we can´t see what really is because, made think about fast.

A wave can be described as a disturbance that travels through a medium from one location to another location. Consider a slinky wave as an example of a wave. When the slinky is stretched from end to end and is held at rest, it assumes a natural position known as the equilibrium or rest position. The coils of the slinky naturally assume this position, spaced equally far apart.
The ocean wave are most commonly caused by wind. Wind-driven waves, or surface waves, are created by the friction between wind and surface water. As wind blows across the surface of the ocean or a lake, the continual disturbance creates a wave crest. These types of waves are found globally across the open ocean and along the coast.
So the wave just exist by a movement, she is a movement.

About half of these deaths – 25,000 – are from the outdoor pollution that we normally worry about, particularly in cities. The other 24,000 result from household air pollution, caused by cooking with wood and other solid fuels. This affects mainly rural communities. Deaths from both outdoor and indoor air pollution represent one in every 26 deaths from all causes in Brazil, making it the ninth largest mortality risk in the country.

In both cities and countryside, the cause is the same: tiny particles in smoke which we breathe in and which can lead to chronic lung disease and acute respiratory infections, lung cancer, heart disease and strokes. This does not just affect Latin America, but is a global problem causing over 6 million deaths worldwide each ye

The World Health Organization (WHO) warned this week that air pollution currently poses the greatest environmental risk to health. According to a new study done by the organization, nine out of ten people on the planet breathe air with high levels of pollutants; this represents 90% of the world's population. Because of this contamination, 7 million deaths annually from diseases related to these pollutants, such as lung cancer, stroke and asthma, according to data collected in more than 4,300 cities in 108 countries

The IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Statistics and Geography) says that in Brazil about 220 thousand tons of garbage are produced, with the popular garbage equivalent to 125 thousand tons, responsible for more than half. Of the total, only four thousand tons are sent to selective collections. It is interesting to note that about fifty thousand tons of waste remain in the open, damaging the health of individuals and the environment.
The garbage we produce affects wildlife, which is not as far as we usually imagine. Russian environmentalists have made a plea after disclosing pictures of the bear cub with the canned stallion on the island of Wrangel, a natural sanctuary located in the Arctic circle in the extreme north-east of Russia, one of the world's heritages of humanity by Unesco.
Many factors are labeled as causing pollution, but in general the real cause of this great environmental problem is simply man, and ironic as it may seem, he alone can fight the created evil itself. Industries, cars and homes are some human actions that emit hundreds of pollutants daily in the environment, and which has been deteriorating more and more negatively

Most of their video involves stop motion, even the characters being human, which creates a curiosity for the viewers' looks, at the same time perhaps a metaphor with the dreams and the ways we see it. Trying to indetermine dreams. This language influences me because the idea of what is real or not is strong, and at the same time the quest to indetize our dreams, which reins rather the cave of Platao and surrealism itself, exploring the human mind and how big it is . Jan knows to use stories already made, but to create another narrative and with another aesthetic. For example Faust, a history that I already have interest, using character, classic catholic sculptures talking with a human, just to symbolize. And then Alice, a retelling of the famous book, exploring its own technique and style. Jan used re-readings to explore himself. A good way to understand who he is by setting an example for me
And many works also have no lines, only gestures and movements, another example of which we do not always need to speak to demonstrate what we feel, and art is a good space for that.

The Surrealists sought to channel the unconscious as a means to unlock the power of the imagination. Disdaining rationalism and literary realism, and powerfully influenced by psychoanalysis, the Surrealists believed the rational mind repressed the power of the imagination, weighing it down with taboos. Influenced also by Karl Marx, they hoped that the psyche had the power to reveal the contradictions in the everyday world and spur on revolution. Their emphasis on the power of personal imagination puts them in the tradition of Romantics , but unlike their forebears, they believed that revelations could be found on the street and in everyday life. The Surrealist impulse to tap the unconscious mind, and their interests in myth and primitivism, went on to shape many later movements, and the style remains influential to this today

And a satire of repression. Talking about people on the EUA, and how’d they were represented. And the other side the same piece but made on this days, by Jesse John, showings the same features on the old one, but on the news days, kind joke for represents the piece. With a modern women and a skater, and everything had changed, the costumes, the attitudes. This piece inspired me because the new artist gave a new way the see the world and made people reflecting how we are on this new world, what has change, what we are doing. Have other pieces with the same idea of remake, but the artists put some new details, demonstrate the days.
A good opportunity to make critics about something, to protest, to speak about a subject who the people don’t look at.

This is one of my favourites animations after all, mostly because is the animation of my favourite comic. Persepolis is intense, political and reflective. Marjane the writer and the Artist and also the mainly carachater, the animation is about her life in the same time the Síria revolution. The narrative is simple but hardly, the drawings are minimalist and just one colour, a grey pallet. Is a perfect piece of art, really easy to understand and also a little informative to all women. She is a icon from comics and animations, a bravery artists.
The animation catch you with time, the begging is already difficult to get and with time you understand more what she’s trying to tell, is don’t give up after all, using your “talents” to improve yourself.
I choose this reference, not just because it’s my favourite, but I think put myself to reflect I’m engage to help people using my work. Like this project. And also the drawns I think is really artistic and I’ll like to inspire me using this type of drawings.

Isle of dogs is a stop motion movie made by Wes Anderson. The all scenario is amazing because is reall sculptures, and the material is almost talking to us. This scene is the trash island, where the dogs who have been expelled live, they are exclude by all society. And the mood behind this scenography could be useful for the first ideia of a world with out the gabarage collectors. And the city is also a good inspiration, to do the drawings we are thinking use a city, and the style and colours are what we wants. Because has the sky sad and cold, like a distopia.

On the end everything is destroyed, and man is alone with his selfishness. I choose this specific work “Egg” because she made a city in a egg format, almost giving the idea of going inside of the projection, enters to the miniature city. And also projecting differents lights into the “screen”. This reference is interesting to reflect about how much is the size I want to work for my screen and what materials I could use, like where is Look like some type of paper or wood, the light are just Leeds. And the way she trys to make the audience not exactly interact but on some way, just look at is already a sensory interaction and experience. And how to calculate the format. This piece is only and magic, like a illusion.

The rear window

It’s a film by Hitchcock,a piece putting together, a unusual soundtrack wich makes just the first scene it’s the viewers can rear, and the others music or sound the characters can rear too. A movie made for “trick” the audience, putting suggestive musics to explore our mind. But I took this movie, because the narrative is telling about a voyeur, a person who observe people, almost obsessive. The mainly character observe people’s life by his window where he can see the others windows and differents characters with differents narratives. Hitchcock plays a lot with meaning and discreet scenes, like second intentional but he don’t want to explain at all, just suggests something. Like the way he make us suspect the killer since the beginning with not worlds. He plays with this language, with out discussion we can see differents and amazing scenes just trying to show us a secret wich one we gonna discover. But I started to watch this movie because tell about a person who see other people life by window, and this movie inspired me to creat my differents character and plays with silhouettes or just expression which don’t have word and we can understand the idea behind. And the scenes where’s the characters shows different perspectives, make me think how can I connect my character with somehow. This movie it’s a awesome piece about voyeur and people’s life in big city, where never stop to happen things, and how people don’t meet which other but live so close, can see jut looking at the window. City where everyone are doing something and has different styles of life, like been artist, or compositor. Wherever they are connected by the city.

This is Brussels on Christmas season, it has a square in the center with historical building and the mostly famous turist places there. Every year they put light into the buildings wich make projections, and the square has a sound and the projection play with the music. Because Brussels or the Belgian is famous by festive electron musics. A good reference to play with light and colours , think about focus in one just part, how they plays with the lights, and how I can intruduce my animation into the screen. I don’t want use music but I think it’s a good to think in colours or short animations to introduce the narrative. It’s a exemple of projection in city, and beautiful the way how it’s displaying with the buildings and windows.

This´s my personal project I have done last year, the idea was take all citys me and my sister have meet since our first trip together. When I move out to Sao Paulo the apartament was so void and white, so we don´t have money to buy ou bring pieces´s arts, and my sister ask to make this.
This is reference made by me for me, I think this a reference, is like I´m redoing this work but a different context and improve my own style and aesthetic, like a comparation betweeen this piece and the new one I´m doing. But a good reference, they are connected, this one speak about city and architecture and how they influence myself as a artist. I think city, buldings, sky line, this landscape, tells about my tast and it´s a way to meet myself better, it´s a language which I wanna learn more.

A piece´s made by Luke O´Sullivan. Though at first glance his skylines appear to be normal, upon further inspection we begin to realize that these are not your typical buildings, and some of them couldn’t even exist at all. This combination of architectural oddities and impossible structures is a running theme throughout O’Sullivan’s work. On his website he describes his art as being inspired by dystopian and science fiction, which we can see elements of in his buildings, including his eclectic use of materials, heavy-industrial smokestacks, tower-esque buildings, and even that one building oozing sludge. The experience doesn’t stop at surface level, either; a whole world continues on underground, where the new scenery is supported by a change of medium. Fine, detailed lines and huge buildings are replaced with a network of salvaged materials, including metal tubing, various wooden platforms and ladders, cords, wires and far tinier three dimensional structures, all which presumably keep these cities going.
This is inspired me to research what type of aesthetic I wants to my project and also think about the size and format. I lke how he has made the layers, this gave me the inspiration, big citys are like a collages, they are full with differents styles. This´s the detail I like most, the diversity.

This film, is about a couple, who lived in the cold war, and fallen in love in this time, so the all scenario and history has this context, but the movie doens´t speak about the scenario, but mostly about the lovers, and how complicated was their relatioship but same time their never stop to love which other, what´s make me think the relatioship is madness. But this movie is a referenc in thermes of colous, photography and for this project, the screen format, the all movie has the square format, what make more symmetry and differents perepesctive. Changing and breank down the common styles, the all screen. And me, I like squares, I think helps with symmetry what bring harmony to the photos, and about my screen, wants be square because gave the idea the city is so big, even can fixed in a big square, also the idea is full. The black and white inspire me to make the aesthetic the same colours, and think about the contrast, where I put more black. And the sillhoutes.

This is the beginning of Monsters S.A. movie, which I was inspired by the jazz and the dynamic between the doors and the musics, or the aesthetic inside.
This short video resumes a lit bit what's about the movie, telling about doors where the kids live and where the monsters go to work. So is kind this I'm trying to do in my animation, because the aesthetic show how my animation will be with out the screen, and reflect how is the aesthetic of my animation and how gonna be harmonic with the screen.

This a Brazilian animation which inspire myself, first because is Brazilian and make me think which studio I could visit someday, and how is their aesthetic and all they work with. If I want continue living in Brazil doing animations, and this movie is really experimental with acrylic and the aesthetic is unusual where they are not really worried if is realistic, but with is harmonic with the aesthetic of work with acrylic. The idea of the movie is not about be realistic but take values to another styles. Like me, I want to work with coar textures.
Also the story, about fear and desires. The animation has a critique about the politic in Brazil, but more fantasy for the kids. Is sad how the Brazilians
don't go watch this piece.

there're some of my favourites animation made in stop motion technique.
Names who I'm really fan:
Tim Burton, like a giant about stop motion and horror history, I loved his choices of characters.
Wes Anderson, is a professional when is about not be a stereotype or a normal history. What I love most is the fact about he can transform any common history in some extraordinary. Especially in their stop motion movies, about animals, like Mr. Fox and Isle of dogs, the characters are so well done, is really nice to look at all, the movements, the effects like the fire with yellow and red papers, and more. His symmetry obsession made the composition be more harmony, because have so many informations and we need something for help us how to watch.

Laika company, who did Coraline, Paranorman, and the Broxtrolls. I'm a big fan of their styles, and how they used all material they can. Valuing work by the hand.
