Period 3: Let's Plan a Zoo: the cost of decisions by Jason Costello

Consider the following questions and then formulate a short response to two to three of the questions (definitely want to respond to #4): Did every animal make it into your zoo? If not, explain why some were included and others were not.
Did you add another animal to your zoo?
Would you want to have a zoo with just one animal (multiple enclosures)?
What was the last animal in and out of your zoo? Why? What was the determining factor of inclusion or exclusion?
Now think, what is the point of this activity? It is not to dream about owning a zoo, there is a economic concept to analyze.

The elephant took up too much space for our enclosure, and within a bird house there is much more variety of bird species then just a singular elephant.

Our last animal we kicked out was the bald eagle. To replace it we added the polar bear enclosure, a monkey enclosure and a gift shop. This is because the bald eagle took up 3 acres, and the polar bear exhibit took up 2, and the gift shop plus the monkeys added up to one. We did this because polar bears are very popular zoo attractions, and monkeys can add to the entertainment whereas a bald eagle isn't quite as popular. We then added the gift shop to increase profit margins as well. This activity helped us understand how decisions must be made to compromise certain things over others. We had to compromise our space in order to include different animals in order to hopefully increase our profit margins. Some animals we added to our zoo that were not on the list were the polar bears and the rhinos.
