This is a picture of a distant galaxy called NGC 6744, which astronomers belive, could be a twin of our galaxy, The Milky Way. The pinwheel is 30 million light years away in the southern constellation of Pavo. NGC 6744 has a distorted companion galaxy called NGC 6744A, which is reminiscent of one of the Milky Way's neighbouring Magelanic Clouds. The main difference between NGC 6744 and The Milky Way is their sizes. Our galaxy is roughly 100,000 light years across, our "twin" galaxy extends to almost twice that diameter. It is one of the largest and nearest spiral galaxies to Earth.

This image shows how NASA’s Voyager 2 has reached interstellar space which is way outside our solar system. We are in the Milky Way galaxy, and interstellar space is uncharted waters, no human has ever ventured outside. This is because as humans, there is not enough technology to do this. Interstellar medium (ISM) is the space in the galaxy and everything in that galaxy is labelled the interstellar medium. Outside the heliosphere, there is no ‘solar wind’ and it cannot be inflated by the suns’ plasma. This shows the difference between our solar system and all the space around it. I find this image interesting as it distinctively shows the scale of the universe and how there are different layers which consist of different things with a variety of conditions.
— Ffion E

It was also the first rocky planet found outside of our solar system and can reach temperatures of 1,400 degrees Celsius. Because of this the rocks melt causing large lava oceans on its surface. It’s high density makes scientists believe that the planet contains a large amount of iron, which would cause the lava to appear a brighter shade of red. I picked this as I think it’s mad how something like this can actually exist.
