My teaching philosophy is centered around building community within my school. No matter whether I end up teaching music in a secondary or elementary school, I want to build up the school community through music. It’s very important to me to use my time with students to make them feel like they are an integral part of something greater than themselves, whether that is a musical ensemble or a member of the school community. By emphasizing the importance of each person to create the greater whole I hope to instil self confidence and pride in each student’s musical abilities. Music making requires great trust in oneself and also trust in one’s  fellow musicians. With this trust I hope to create a safe space in my school where all children feel welcome, accepted, included and safe, making them more open to being creative and making music with their peers.
