Teaching is not forcing ideas upon students. It is not to give them a set way of thinking or a set idea of what life is supposed to be like. Teaching is giving students the ability to think for themselves, to question the world around them, to encourage the understanding of the world yet having the hope of changing it. The awareness that students develop of their world, of their life, is what makes them educable. As a teacher, encouraging students to think for themselves and to long for more knowledge is more important than having them pass state standard tests.

It is the process in which we enable them to construct and produce their own thoughts and ideas on information. As teachers we support their curiosity and encourage them to question ideas. If we do not we are not being authentic.

Teaching is all about inspiring a deep curiosity in your students. It is about the teacher being a life long learner and being the best he/she can be and still be willing to listen to their students and learn from them. Teaching is about committing to have a code of professional conduct that reminds you that you are there to truly care about teaching authentically. Helping students to keep building on their knowledge and create some of their own thoughts.

Teaching is creating opportunities to help students develop power to perceive the world around them. This can happen via communication, interactions between teachers and students are crucial. The idea of the teacher just teaching, or a banking model, is debunked by allowing teachers and students to build a relationship between on going process. This praxis is a major part of the fight for liberation, in this fight there is an intentional avoidance of oppressive practice and their reproduction.
