For Unit 8 Final Major project I have started with a bit of confusion, because I had to choose 1 topic from 3, after I have researched all of them. After the confusion was gone and I have chosen a topic called: Society Today (Technology and the impact it has in our lives) to work on and develop, I started informing myself deeper on the topic to know exactly what I am doing.

 

 Why I have chosen this topic?

The reason I chose this topic is because I actually think that it’s affecting the world, it creates problems and negativity around us. Sometimes it might help people with their needs but destroying you in the time and making you dependent of it. Especially the youth of today are constantly immersed in technological advancement that promote non-stop communication and instant grafication. A very simple example is: they have to revise for the exams and they spend time on their phone and when they fail, they regret that moment. Technology is a negative influence on us because it separates individuals from reality. With technology you affect humanity and the environment around it that we live in, until there it’s no more chance to escape from.

 

I have researched the three main topics, encounters, experiences and meeting, combination and alliances and society today, my chosen topic, written my ideas and intentions in my sketchbook and then picked one to develop. The topic I chose is Society Today because it is what you can see with your eyes every day. Within society today I’ve decided to work on digital technology and the affects it has in our lives. My intentions for this topic are: to research about technology further and record its evolution. I have to illustrate technology how I actually see it. Society must be able to utilize technology while not allowing it to impede social interactions, I mean not to create problems between us such as: cyberbullism, postcode terrorism, threatens and other associated stuff or use it for bad intentions. A technology artist that I researched is Mads Peitersen, one of his drawing is a smartphone opened as an open body showing its organs. This means that technology owns us humans, because we can’t leave house without a technological piece. Smartphones today are so advanced and good they almost behave alive. And becomes an extension of your body sometimes.

 

The materials I have used are very common materials that most of us use in art. I can say that they are: pencil, pen, marker, acrylic inks, watercolours, colours, monoprinting materials, glue gun, camera, glue, laptop, printer etc.… Once you have all the materials you will use different techniques and processes to work on with them.

1.     I have interviewed my parents about their young period and how technology was influencing them by small thing.

2.     I have asked an old man with lots of experience about his past life and the technology evolution that it was.

3.     I have asked friends how technology affect them nowadays.

 

For my final piece I have included three ideas:

 

1.     A laptop model made from cardboard and a detailed drawing popping up from the screen of a man with a TV head and wires around him.

2.     A painting of a sad man sat down on a bench painted from screens located in a dark and scary place.

3.     A digital piece: a picture taken in the studio using a camera borrowed from the hatch:  Gloria and Paul. I have also used 2 of my friends to take pictures of them while using their phone, after including a laptop in front of them. After the pictures were done I have edited them in Photoshop and used Antione Geiger artist style to work on.
