There are many ways to experience our natural world. Today we explore by dissecting lima beans, singing and dancing, and even meeting one of Germantown Metro park's animal ambassadors.

Can you find animals in your yard? Try to find three living creatures outside! Leave a response about what you found.

Craft your own lima bean diagram! Can you identify all the parts? Try dissecting a lima bean with your own hands? How does it feel? smell? taste?

Lets see what happens when we plant our seeds! Do you remember what our plants need to grow? Its some of the very things we need to grow big and strong. Air, water, sunshine and soil!

Can you go outside and find three different kinds of plants? You can also leave a video response of planting your seeds, or what they look like when they sprout!

"Twist and Sprout" lyrics (Posted on this padlet and accompanying YouTube video)

Bag of Dried Lima Beans
Plastic Baggies
Paper Towels
Way to water seeds (small sponges, spray bottle, etc.)
Can of Lima Beans (To be able to taste them!)

Construction paper
Scissors
Tape

Clump of sod (can be dug up from any outdoor area, and put back when done exploring!)

Magnifying glass
If you don't have one on hand you can find affordable ones on Amazon.

Getting Our Hands Dirty

This part of the activity series involves the teachers or parents digging up chunks of sod for our little ones to dig through! If you'd like to have them dig up some sod themselves outside that is also appropriate! This is where the magnifying glasses will come in handy, as they use their hands to dig through the dirt, they can also separate what they find (rocks, roots, critters) and use their magnifying glasses to take a closer look!
