What is acting to me?

Lowkey being experiencing the care system, homelessness and poverty made me a very evil and angry person. Someone I was not proud of to be, someone who I didn’t want to be. I saw everything that happened to me as just a hinderance in my life. Something that will forever set me back, keep me from achieving my goals. But acting specifically the Stanislavski method of relying on past emotion is what really changed acting for me, the ability to turn what was once suffering into art into a skill, made me see acting in a different light. Acting to me is a tool, that can help me deal with my issues and go further in my career.

I love this man, sound like such a freak saying this but huge chance I’d be dead without him, when I learnt about him stuff actually changed for me. The Stanislavski system specifically the part of which includes “Psychological realism is what changed my perspective fully, his teachings of relying on past psychological emotions change acting. Most people view acting as a lie of sorts your internally lying on camera or stage. But with his methods whilst yes you are acting the emotions are real, what you feel is real. And for me it was one of the most scariest and also most incredible finding I think I can find from any practitioner. I love him. Thank you Stanislavski. ❤️

One barrier that I think I need to get past this year is definitely people touching me, like I’m fine giving hugs just weird about receiving, same with most forms of touch. The Spinal exercise we did in a way did help me get past that even just a little, also reminded me of how unflexible, I am, as actors it’s important to recognise our strengths and our weaknesses and touch and movesblity are definitely mine and something I wish to work on more.

Came in late so I was up for a surprise when I walked in and saw my fellow classmates walking around the room making animal noises and walking and funky ways, I quickly realised we were doing animal based movement work. I gave myself a few seconds and decided to be a flamingo, because I like them and it was hard one for me and I need to train my movement skills more, the Grace of a flamingo is a difficult one too focus one while trying to not fall over, but I eventually got the hang of it.

My original idea for my character in our unit one piece was a rude spoilt teenage drug addict, but I feel a lot of the more specific traits held back my character instead of allowing me more moments, so I decided to simplify my character a bit, to just a rich spoilt girl, not only did the simplicity of my character allow me more freedom of expression to work on, but as a working class individual I found that playing a rich girl a character quite opposite to my lived in experiences was quite enjoyable. Thank you Tiffiné I hate you and love you.

Today we focused on warm up exercises, from simple exercises to games, we were then instructed to create our on warm ups to present as a group with our unit one performance. Our group decided on.

Hand and Arm Stretches

Neck and Shoulder stretches

Torso movement

Leg and foot movements

And a spoken word game that combined vocal warm ups and physical movement by the act of throwing a ball.

After watching the other groups performances, I believe that if I was to try something next time with a new group or my old I think we should try more stage presence, I think that we all accident ended up quite static.

Image does not match what I’m talking about just though I should add a bit of humour. But I think an attribute that was shown to me was using up the space, through our walking exercises, I found that not only did it get the blood moving me throughout my body but also I found by moving around I felt the emotions I was trying to portray more. And as well as being better for our warm up to use the space more I also believe that in my pieces I should use space more.
