I went on the pill thinking that I would not get my periods anymore (it happened to my friend). However the doctor said that I need to take the yasmin pill for 21 days and then stop taking it for 7 days so I can get my period. 

My friend does not stop taking her pill. She told me she is on the progesterone-only pill.
