Often abandoned pets have to become stray or feral to survive.
Stray animals can become weak to diseases such as rabies .
The exact number of abandoned animals is still unknown and many of them do not survive because of lack of water and food.
But there are people out there trying to help by adopting animals and crating refugees which now are getting overcrowded.
In the us a new 410$ bill is set for abandon and at maximum can get up to 2000$ including in jail time if needed.
To prevent abandon there are several organizations to help you and your pet like the “the humane society” that also offers solutions for other problems.

Money will have to be invested in controlling the problem of the ownerless dog population, instead of spending the money on other activities.
And so we can number many more factors that make abandoning a dog not only attempt against it, but against society and the environment.

Many of the above points are equally valid for the population of stray dogs (dogs with an owner, who spend part of the day on the street).

It is interesting to evaluate the causes of abandonment, which are the ones that must be considered when planning solutions.

Why do people abandon their pets?

This is mainly because the owners do not want to assume the responsibilities associated with the adoption of pets, for example: pregnancy and high number of pups, monetary costs, health problems in animals and in humans (allergies to pets for example) , dogs with behavior problems and incompatibility with family life, or the dog is no longer a puppy and is no longer "cute", among many others. If people thought evil, they themselves would take the life of the animal, but they do not do it because they could not bear to see an animal suffer or inflict harm directly.

In addition to the above, there is a general lack of knowledge about the potential risks of abandoning pets and, therefore, an incomplete evaluation of the costs and benefits is made. Simply assume a moral cost without taking the true weight of the situation, since there is no awareness of the risks to which the animal and the environment are exposed. There is a culture that if I leave it somewhere else, someone else will take care of "my problem."
People have been misused to believe that others (organizations or institutions) will be responsible for their own irresponsibility or carelessness.

What determines that people can abandon animals is the impunity in which the abandonment remains, this because nobody will have how to know who was the irresponsible one who abandoned the animal, since we do not have an identification system like the microchip. With this type of system the owner could be located, as long as the animal has that identification.

Among other causes of abandonment (in this case, involuntary) we could mention:
-A stray dog (owner-owned dog that roams the streets freely) who escapes, for example, by following a bitch in heat.
-Supervised dog unaccustomed to going out, escaping or lost and unable to return home.

In these circumstances, the owners may want to retrieve their pets, however, many of them do not have identification so that whoever finds them can locate them, nor is there a central place to turn for
