What
Known as one of the “longest, and bloodiest engagements in modern warfare”, by History.com. The battle of Stalingrad was over the Russian city, Stalingrad by the Russians, and Germans.

When
August 23rd 1942


Significance
The Significance of this battle is that it was a major point in the war with the Germans and Russians. This is because the city was located near Poland, but close enough to the USSR capital to do damage with planes.

Interesting Fact
The battle of Stalingrad was five months long, with approximately 1.2 million deaths.

The legacy of the Manhattan Project is huge. The importance of nuclear weapons not only helped bring an end to the Second World War but created the atomic age and determined how the next war, the Cold War, would be fought.

The Manhattan Project employed over 120,000 Americans.

Stalin, Churchill and Roosevelt all were in attendance, representing their individual countries. They were deciding what to do with Europe, post World War 2. The outcome was dividing Germany into 4 zones, all occupied and controlled by one of the allies' military forces. This conference was extremely significant, for it set the tone for Europe and the next forty years. Most of the conference remained secretive until after the war was fully complete, with the allies fearing the central powers' retaliation if they found out that all of the most important ally leaders were all in one place.
