In clinic, I worked with a 52-year-old woman who had thoracic spinal fusion surgery from T4-T12, 20 years ago. She presented with progressive stiffness, reduced respiratory motion and intermittent discomfort in the cervical and lumbar spine, likely due to comensatory strain and long-term adaptive patterns.

This case provided insight into the long-term sequelae of spinal surgery and the importance of supporting the body´s adaptation over time. Through detailed case history and functional assessment, we tailored a treatment plan with focus on improving mobility in adjacent spinal regions, reducing muscular tension and supporting respiratory function.

My osteopathic training helped me approach this case holistically, recognising the need for long-term management rather than immediate resolution.

This experience reinforced the value of osteopathy in managing chronic conditions through consistent, patient-centred care.
