Orion is a character of Greek Mythology, long with other Greek Gods and Goddesses.
The story of Orion states that, Orion a boastful hunter claimed he could rid the earth of all wild animals. The goddess of nature Gaia, was not happy with what he was saying, so she sent a giant Scorpion after Orion to defeat him.
Orion's arrows could not penetrate the armor of the beast. When he realized he could not win, he jumped into the ocean. Apollo(the god of music), who did not like Orion or his relationship with Apollo's sister Artemis ( the goddess of the hunt). Apollo saw Orion in the ocean and tricked his sister into believing it was a monster so she would shoot him. Once Artemis had realized what she'd done she begged the gods to bring Orion back to life, but they refused. Instead she put Orion's body in the sky forever.

The Orion Nebula is only 1 500 light years from earth, making it the closest possible star formation site to earth.

There are many mysteries surrounding Orion. Delta Ori, a star on Orions belt can be glimpsed at with the naked eye however studies have recently shown its actually a cluster of three stars. This means the stars are in orbit so that every 5.7 days they line up perfectly on one another.

In the book "Orion's Mystery" it is claimed that the great pyramids if Giza are played out as a replication of the Star constellation Orion. It is said that all stars to the north and south of the three great pyramids match exactly to the stars in Orion and that the great Pyramids replicate the three on Orions belt.
