Plot of the Prologue:
The setting of the Wayward Inn, the main location of the series, describing the silence surrounding the protagonist before continuing with the actual plot of the book

Setting: night, silence, dawn, solitude

Literary devices

- personification e.g. "Dawn was coming", "he avoided loose boards that might groan or sign"
- metonomy (?): e.g. "true-red hair, red as flame"; description of the protagonist only his hair - plays a role in the rest of the series
- metaphor, e.g. "the third silence was deep and wide as autumn"s ending, it was heavy as a great river-smooth stone, it was the patient, cut-flower sound of a man who is waiting to die"; used to describe how intense the silence is
- repetition: e.g. "the Inn lay in silence, and it was a silence of three parts."
