Mrs. Houston: "Corporal punishment can be an immediate correction to a problem or behavior.  When students are disciplined with corporal punishment, students understand there is a consequence to their action.  Because of the threat of corporal punishment, sometimes students are deterred from committing a disciplinary action.  Some students who commit minor offenses will often become better students and better behaved when corporal punishment is administered to them.  I believe in corporal punishment and use it when I deem it necessary in my own school.  However, I do believe parents should be allowed to choose if this is an appropriate form of discipline for their own children."

I would have to say that I agree with Mrs. Houston on this. I think that corporal punishment is what some children need to be motivated to follow rules. I hope to work at a school one day that enforces corporal punishment. However, I also think that it should still be the parents choice on whether or not their child can receive this type of punishment. Some parents may not agree with this form of discipline. I can use this information from Mrs. Houston about how this form of discipline has worked in her school to make a more informed decision of whether I support it or not, and I agree with it.
