This famous sightseeing visit in America is also known as the Presidents’ Mountain. It is located in the state South Dakota. The sculpture consists of the heads of four famous presidents; George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln. The faces are carved into the side of the granite mountain. The monument gets over three million visitors every year, according to the National Park Service. George Washington is on the mountain because he is the first president of the United States of America. Thomas Jefferson is on the mountain because he expanded the nation with the Louisiana Purchase, which included the land mount Rushmore is on. Theodore Roosevelt is on the mountain because he was widely known for his efforts in conservation. Abraham Lincoln is the fourth president that is depicted on Mt. Rushmore, that is because he was the president during the Civil War, so he represents the preservation of the nation. Some facts about Mount Rushmore: It took 14 years and $989,992.32 to build it. 90% of the carving was done with dynamite. The artist that was in charge of the build, Borglum, was at the time believed to be a member of the Klu Klux Klan.

Source: https://www.thoughtco.com/facts-about-mount-rushmore-104819

Obesity

America is famous having an obese population. The first things that come to mind for a lot of people if you ask them about America, are obesity and fast food. If you compare data from America and the Netherlands, it becomes clear that obesity is a really big problem in America. In the Netherlands about 12.5% of the population is obese, in America this figure is 37.7%. That means that in every 3 people you averagely meet in America, 1 is obese. The obesity is 3 times higher in America compared to the obesity figure in the Netherlands. If you look at the average obesity figures in the European Union, about 17% of the population of all countries that are a member of the European Union is obese. That is higher than it is in the Netherlands, but the United States still score about twice as high. While that may be shocking, there’s more to this story. If we look at the figures for childhood obesity, so people under the age of 20, America scores a whopping 20.5%. That 20.5% is whopping because the same figure in the Netherlands is only at 4%. That means that obesity is a problem in the United States now, but it will remain that way for a few years to come.

Mexican border

The border between America and Mexico is best protected from Mexico into America. The border is about 2000 miles long and reaches through 4 American states: California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. About 580 miles of those 2000 miles have some kind of physical barriers. By physical barriers I mean fences, walls or vehicle traps. The other parts of the border, which are not protected by physical barriers are often places which can’t be reaches easily. For instance, where there’s only miles and miles of dessert, they don’t have to have barriers because a lot of people die in the dessert before they get to America. Trump wants to build a newer and bigger wall that reaches across all 2000 miles of the border, but it will be a very costly project. His idea is a concrete wall that reaches 9 metres above the surface and also 3 metres beneath it, to prevent the cartels from digging tunnels. The problem with this idea is that it would cost about 3.9 million dollars per mile to build this wall. That means that it would cost at least 7 billion dollars to build this wall. There are already 180.000 border security officers on the payroll of the American government, which already costs a lot of money each year.

Drive thru

Americans like everything on the go, it’s part of their busy life and culture. This part is about drive throughs, but of course we also know them in the Netherlands. They came here from America of course, and the only thing we can get at a drive thru is some fast food. But in America there are a lot more crazy things you can get on the go at a drive thru. This one’s not legal in every state, but America is full of drive thru liquor stores. You wouldn’t say drinking and driving is a good idea, but the Americans thought it was. In Los Angeles, at the Robert L. Adams Mortuary you can pay respect to your passed loved ones from your car, that’s right, a drive thru funeral home. There is even a legal firm that has a drive thru window attached to their office, because after all, what do Americans like more than sewing each other and using drive thru. But a wedding isn’t something you’d rush through would you, wrong. The Americans have found a way to rush through your wedding, a drive thru wedding chapel. So you can now tie the knot in a mobile ceremony in America.

Source: https://www.businessinsider.com/the-strangest-drive-thru-services-2011-6?international=true&r=US&IR=T
