1. Teachers should occasionally withhold illustrations from stories because images can sometimes hinder vocabulary growth. The pictures may become a crutch when we need our students to visualize meaning. Also, pictures may not be a perfect representation of meaning and may cause misconceptions. It is a skill to organize thoughts from words and pictures can sometimes take away from the development of that skill.

2. Chunking is related to the development of reading comprehension because we need to categorize information in our brains to make sense of it. If we can not chunk information together we won't be able to hold enough information in our working memory to understand complexities of texts, especially when they increase in length.

3. My opinion is that students should be able to read any type of book for pleasure, opposed to pushing their abilities and forcing them to read challenging books. A student may stay in their comfort zone if they get full autonomy over what their reading is. However, when reading for pleasure, I'd rather have a kid develop interest in reading at what ever cost.

4. n/a

5. I think repetition and teaching mnumonic devices is one of the most useful ways to teach vocabulary. Images can occasionally help too. I think if you can teach meaning through real world concepts or examples, the students can remember it better. In my class we also play kahoot for vocabulary. They enjoy using vocabulary as a game.
