The Fugitive Slave Law forced Northerners to capture slaves and return them to their own, which caused problems in the North since they were free states. 'If they were to try and end slavery, how would returning runaway slaves contribute?' Hence the North didn’t like it. For the South, however, the Fugitive Slave Law was an advantage they had since it seemed as if the government was on their side.
