All their workers are paid, their supply chain is transparent, and they are carbon positive. They donate “the equivalent of 2% revenue (by way of product donations) in every financial year”, and customers can choose to donate products to combat period poverty. Their products also offer customers a sustainable option to traditional period products. “As of 15th June 2022; Together with our customers, AWWA has prevented almost 23 million single use period products from ending up in landfills and waterways in New Zealand and around the world.” <br><br><strong>Community engagement/revenue source: </strong>They sell their period underwear and swimwear online and in stores worldwide.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Industry: </strong>Knitwear/community<br><br><strong>Incorporation date: </strong>2016<br><br><strong>Mission statement/tag line: </strong>Make Give Live is a social enterprise that connects and nurtures the wellbeing of people in their communities while crafting beautiful knitwear for you and people in need.<br><br><strong>How does the social enterprise deliver its impact? </strong>Make Give Live has set up community crafting groups that meet regularly to enjoy each other's company and knit and crochet hats (among other things) that the company sells using a 'buy one - give one' model. Each hat sold on their website funds a hat given to someone in need (various charities have been supported). They aim to ease isolation and improve mental health and wellbeing through connection and handcrafting. There are 11 groups nationwide with 137 makers, with 300 people on a waiting list to join a group.<br><br><strong>Community engagement/revenue source: </strong>Items in stock are for sale on their website and they also do pre-orders/custom orders with a 2-4 week lead time. They sell baby, child, and adult accessories, typically for between $50 and $70. There is no charge for the knitting groups, and the crafters are unpaid.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

Their digital volunteer infrastructure supports communities to track volunteer engagement and skill acquisition, reward and recognise volunteer effort, grow ecosystems of like-minded people giving back to community, and celebrate social impact across local and national sectors. Be Collective is a one-stop shop for managing volunteering activity and measuring social impact.&nbsp;<br><br></div><div><strong>Community engagement/revenue source:&nbsp;</strong>Be Collective was developed by the founding family and former owners of The Body Shop (New Zealand and Australia) and is part of WE Australia, a group of innovative commercial and social enterprises. Be Collective is free for anyone to use, however some platform features are only available on a paid annual subscription.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>https://www.localised.nz/<br><br><strong>Industry:</strong> Waste minimisation <br><br><strong>Incorporation date:</strong> 2019<br><br><strong>Mission statement/tag line:</strong> To promote Zero Waste based community enterprises as a practical tool which empowers communities to develop local environmental, social and economic solutions.<br><br><strong>How does the social enterprise deliver its impact? </strong>Localised is accredited as a social enterprise by Ākina and provides help to new and developing resource recovery hubs as a joint venture partner. Localised provides capital and expertise to enable community organisations to successfully tender for local government contracts. Community enterprise is great way to solve local problems and create local benefits, but a lack of experience, confidence and finance can make getting going difficult. Localised's work is expanding the number of community enterprises in Aotearoa, contributing to community empowerment and resilience, reducing waste to landfill, and contributing positively to the local economy they work in. <br><br><strong>Community engagement/revenue source: </strong>Localised is a registered charity and is 100% owned by the Zero Waste Network. Funding via the membership fees of the Zero Waste Network members and income from the Localised-funded hubs provides money to support community waste groups develop.</div>]]></description>
