But real life isn't always like what we hope it to be. It's hard. It's complicated. It's a mess. It's "here be dragons" not "here be humanity getting along and being great." I'm just... I'm just all out of pedestals.

Post undergrad, I've spent most of my time giving. I turned my life into service for others, socially or professionally. I still value serving the community, but I no longer believe that running myself ragged to help others is how I prove my self-worth. So I'm trying to find a way I can help that is also fulfilling to me. 

So I value things that I can have. Not grand ideas and illusions. I value what time I get to myself. Time with people who are close to me. Sleep, whenever it comes in meaningful measures. Good food with good people. A cold drink. Long-form YouTuber videos. My cat -- especially my cat. 

Security, stability, and consistency. Peace of mind, peace and quiet, time to just be without anyone's comment or judgement.

Little things. Selfish things.

I value my friends and family who keep their promises, maintain confidentiality, and demonstrate reliability because after all by nature people are dependent on one another, and therefore, honesty is the foundation for trust and key in social relationships. 
We also need to understand that trustworthiness is not a one-time effort but an ongoing commitment to being dependable and accountable. Having honest and loyal people around me gives me hope, confidence, compassion and improves my decision-making.
