One of Steve's first climb was on the Matterhorn in Switzerland. I love this climb because it is his first climb of his story. In Steve's climb he had the climb cancelled a few times because of weather but eventually he final climbed. "We had reached the shoulder of the mountain (Matterhorn), where the snow remains even in later summer" (Page 22). This is while Steve was climbing the Matterhorn in which he says this. The video is parts of what the mountain looks like and the trek that Steve most likely took.

The Naked Mountaineer is a story about many solo climbing adventures to the summit of many mountains. Steve who is the author of the book is the main character. During his climbs he is not any sort of hero of special person, and he is just a regular climber like the rest. His climbs are memorable which the people he meets, the foods he eats, the diseases. The usual topics of climbing, like pocket knifes, axes, carabiners, and tents. While on the Matterhorn Mountain he meet a alpinist who becomes his great friend. She came across a cockfight in the Balinese Village, and at a volcano in Italy he was mistaken for a famous singer. He climbed many mountains through hard and easy terrain. The weather was usually nice, but a couple of times the trek was cancelled because of the weather. He also visits Mount Olympus and besides climbing, he visits people and the surrounding land. The story talks about the people he meets and them conversing, while it does not encounter much action.

"My English gentleman told me he has bought the climbing rope that he and Erwin had used, and he had given his personal wristwatch to the guide as a token of his appreciation" (Page 29). In the story the guides that Steve meet are a large amount of the people he talks to. The guides are very important for assuring that the climbings get to the summit and remain safe. Giving a "token of appreciation" shows how important the guides.

"I followed his suggestion and had a pleasant stroll up a well worn path thorough scrub pines. I hadn't gone far when I met a group of fifteen coming down" (Page 108). I love this quote because in the story Steve (the narrator) encounters many people and with a group of fifteen it portrays about how many people Steve would have met usually.

"Many lives have lives have been lost here. For the man who does not succeed, the reward is greater because he has had to give more. And people will recognize that quality in a man" (Page 18). This is a great quote because it is a saying that has meaning and it is not just dialogue. It takes about succeeding a goal has a greater reward for the people who give more.
