While using Google forms as a warm up I have been placing PAST assessment questions in Google Forms using the Important Questions Function found on google classroom. This allows me to specifically target frequently missed questions, and review and or connect past lessons very quickly. -Mr. Little

I constantly watch and read body language.
I do a lot of thumbs up/down and students will do the thermometer piece with it a lot of times.
These give me a quick review of who gets it and who doesn't. I can then determine if I need to go back and reteach something, throw in a video, or diagram or whatever.
Pros: quick and pretty efficient which is why I like it
Cons: doesn't give me a complete picture

I use a variety of quick assessments, but Kahoots quickly shows how many students understood a question. We stop between any question with a missed answer and discuss the concept, as well as methods to have eliminated some choices. The problem can happen when a student does not take the "game" seriously, accidentally selects the wrong answer, or never selects an answer before the time runs out. This is when the body language comes into play and making observations. Basically, I use it actively not passively in my classroom.

Recently I have been using Pear Deck as a way to check how students are feeling about a concept before, during, and after a concept. Pear Deck also allows students to write or type on a slide, so I can also SEE the work they are doing to solve a problem.

I like using socrative in the classroom. To me it is like digital "task cards" but the perk is it is able to grade each question "live" which I'm able to monitor on my chromebook -

I use socrative two ways, one with open navigation, so students can go back to any question. When I use this I am able to notify students of specific problems that they need to go back and try again which makes the students seem to work harder because they know they get multiple chances; it's not just one and done which is nice when they are practicing a concept. The other way is it grades instantaneously, which gives the students live feed back. Students like the instant feedback, but get agitated when they type something in slightly wrong so it grades it incorrectly or are struggling with a concept and know they keep getting it wrong. I use it more as a quiz, as in they have had prior practice

I wanted to share that I have been using Pear Deck and I really love it so far for quick formative assessments. Kristin and I learned about it at the tech meeting and it was fun. It works right along with Google Slides that I create OR they have some templates. You login with Google which is so easy. The kids logging in is also very easy. I am hoping that Dr. Williams is getting great reviews from the tech team because I think it would make life easier for us to insert quick formative type activities or responses into what we already have created. This is just one of the practice slides that I used in my Energy Transfer lesson.

I recently started using a resource that was introduced to me when I was in grad school. It is called poll everywhere. It has a bunch of different features to get quick information about students feelings or to quickly check their understanding. I recently used the emotion poll to see how students were feeling about cause and effect relationships. It shows up anonymously on my board so students can see how their peers feel, but also feel okay to share how they really feel. On my end I can see names, and know which students may need some extra help with the concept.
