A free account is fine if you are getting started or if you want students to make their own first padlet..  The .com also offers a pro  account which is relatively inexpensive for a school (about €100 a year) and the best option unless you intend to make massive use of the platform on a daily basis. 
The other kind of account is a backpack  (.org) account which has a flat cost of 1000 per school and then €2 for each user.  It has the same features as a pro account but allows individual users to organise their own pages.  There is one administrator who can manage users and payments.  This is best for a more sustained, school-wide deployment of the platform.
