Reflect on your way of being. When in your life have you seen others as objects? When have you seen others as people? What's the difference in these situations?

Right off the bat I am noticing a lot of connections to the book I read: Leadership and Self-Deception. This book also talked about seeing others as objects.
First, yes, I have viewed others as objects before. It is easier to view strangers as objects, instead of someone I am close with. For example, waiting in a line or driving in traffic.
Secondly, I see my students as people (tiny people, but still people). This lens gives me more respect and patience with all 30 of them!
The biggest difference is that people respond when you treat them with kindness and empathy. They feel seen and loved instead of ignored and insignificant.

This hurts my heart. There are times when I am empathetic in my duties as a mother. There are times when I am tired or frustrated when I see my children as one more thing to do. It hurts to be this honest, but it is true. Certainly, the times when I am seeing my children as people, I am more joyful and less selfish. When I am seeing them as a task, I get more defensive (justified).
