I think students would really benefit from a "technology bootcamp" at the beginning of the year (any year), this year especially. I also think parents could benefit a lot from a remote learning bootcamp where we discuss how to set up learning spaces, and how to best support your child through remote learning.

Focusing more on connection and community and giving myself the permission to slow down on content and curriculum has been really helpful. Sometimes that's ending the day with a few minutes of free talking, or allowing for sharing before we start a lesson. Even if we don't accomplish as much as I had planned in a lesson, I consider it successful if the kids are feeling connected, seen, and heard.

Remote learning = big learning curve for everyone. We know so much more than we did when we started remote learning. Now I see we can't assume everyone knows about technology and how to do school remotely. Grace and patience are needed. I would create a video on all the ways to find a free reading book and how to navigate Schoology.

I would have had the parents sit it one class period with them so that the students could learn how to get on independently. I also would like parents to know that for math intervention they will always need certain materials; most importantly, a number line!!

As mentioned above, I believe a technology informational session would be beneficial for both parents and students. At the beginning of the school year, many of my students struggled navigating through various resources (Zoom, Seesaw, etc). I made sure to take the time during class to guide students step-by-step using the resources as well as share videos with families on how to use them.

This year, my team and I have collaborated more and have altered certain lessons (i.e. Science) to make them more engaging and accessible (experiments) for both students in-person and remote. I would like to try the 80/20 rule in my classroom.

We take time every morning to check in and connect with each other. Students often complete a mood meter for their check-in. They get to relax and chat with each other to begin the day. At the beginning of the year, we had zoom chat conversation starters until they all got to know each other. We also did a lot of Flipgrids and used other interactive platforms to connect and share about ourselves. Games have been huge for bonding during hybrid. They love any game that is "roomies versus zoomies." It encourages them to collaborate with each other no matter where they are learning at. Quizizz, Time to Climb, Heads up, etc. have also been a hit during hybrid.

Technology tutorials and activities that were fun and engaging using the different tech platforms are super beneficial for students and families. We did a tech bootcamp breakout, and students learned so much in each challenge! Newsletters and a consistent method of communicating daily plans with students and parents is also helpful.

Slowing down has really helped, as well as taking the time for students to check in on assignments and ask any questions. This time has been super beneficial in keeping our classroom community organized. Consistency and established routines also helped with workflow.

Making a video tutorial of how to set up to paint days and clean up paint days from home or from the art room. This would make it more seamless for hybrid teaching.

I have loved hearing my little artists share their work on zoom/ in classroom and give feedback to each other. Peer feedback means a lot to my students.

I would like to think more about not reinventing the wheel. I sometimes think that I need to recreate ALL new art lessons when I have old ones that would work beautifully in hybrid teaching. I also need to utilize more online resources to plan lessons. And other art teachers too!
