In the years following his death, King’s efforts continued to make a difference in the world. His wife later established the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change to honor his memory. In 1986, the federal government declared his January 16th birthday a national holiday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
