The president of the US during the time of the stock market crash was Herbert Hoover. He was inaugurated the January before the crash, and in the following months he promoted the growth and increase of prices in the stock market and helped it flourish in the "Hoover bull market." After the crash, he attempted to stimulate the economy and introduced a few new social programs. However, his response to the problem was seen as too conservative by the majority of Americans living in poverty during the Great Depression.

The following president after Hoover was Franklin D. Roosevelt. His more Democratic political ideas made him the winner of the election by a huge margin. People were tired of living in poverty under Hoover and needed a change, which FDR provided. He began his term by closing banks down for a few days until Congress could pass reform legislation. He also gave "Fireside Chats" over the radio that were broadcast all over the country, which made Americans feel more personally connected with him and restored their trust for the government. During his presidency, FDR set up many new social programs to help get the economy back on track as part of his "New Deal." A few programs included in Roosevelt's "New Deal," some of which are still in use today, were the Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA), the Public Works Administration (PWA), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and the Social Security Act. Congress also raised taxes on large corporation and rich people to "share the wealth" with everyone else during this time of struggle.

Throughout the 1920s the stock market grew rapidly. Prices of stocks were inflated way above their actual value. Extreme debt also contributed to this problem because people were buying and selling stocks on credit with money they didn't have. Stock prices began to rapidly decline in September and October of 1929, and on October 29, Black Tuesday, stock prices completely collapsed. Billions of dollars were lost, triggering the economic collapse of the Great Depression, in which almost half of the banks in America failed and unemployment rates skyrocketed. Reform measures were put into action by president Franklin D. Roosevelt with his "New Deal" social programs.

The stock market crash of 1929 occurred in the New York Stock exchange on Wall Street, but it's effects spread across the entire country. This place is significant because it's the location of the center of the stock market, which was what fell and led to the Great Depression.

The stock market crash occurred on Tuesday October 29, 1929. This time is significant because the years leading up to this day (the roaring 20s) experienced an extreme growth in the stock market and buying on credit.

The stock market crash of 1929 occurred because of the growth of buying and selling on the stock market with credit, increasing debt. This created a large bubble of inflated prices that eventually had to pop. This event taught us lessons in how to maintain a stable economy and properly manage money to avoid another major economic crash like the Great Depression.
