Not much happened in Felix’s life that he could talk about. At least, not in the early years of his life. His parents were poor, but he didn’t have much memory of those days. Because not long after. They were middle class. They gained money, and more family. More kids that Felix could play with, more toys that he’d enjoyed playing with. More food than he could eat.

But what he didn’t know. Was that it all came with a price. And he was it.

Maybe he was naive. At the time, he would’ve never applied that word to himself. He considered himself very smart as much as he was obedient. He was perfect in his parent’s eyes. But he was also perfect in the reverends eyes. And that mattered to him the most. Because he knew that mattered to everyone else as well.

The first time Felix heard the word ‘cult’ was when they left home on a trip. It wasn’t his first trip. But it was the first time he was old enough to be outside of the van. It was also the first time he recognized the way people were looking at him. He could never place it when he was younger. But he knew it as pity.

But why? He was with family and friends. He was safe. Although, he recognized the emotion. He didn’t understand it.

Not until it started getting closer to his coming of age ceremony. He was turning twenty one and he was noticing the changes in everyone. He ignored it. That’s what he did with things he didn’t understand and he dared not question it. Because he knew the response he would get.

“They’re jealous of you.” Is what his mother would coo at him. And perhaps they were. But jealous of what?

He understood the week leading up to his birthday. He was chosen. The moment the reverend had laid eyes upon him all those years ago, he was chosen. And his parents happily gave him up in exchange for a comfortable life.

On the night of his birthday. The ground beneath him was damp with evening dew, but the chill didn’t cut as deeply as the silence. There were dozens—maybe even hundreds—of the others. They, alongside Felix, surround a great fire. Embers rise into the air.

Felix wasn’t new to this event. It only happened once a year. And that night was his chance of proving himself to earning the favor of the god they worshipped for their people.

He had the ceremonial dagger clutched tight in his hands. His body was slicked with oil. The light from the fire made his skin shine under the flames. The priestesses had painted him in it earlier. They drew runes on him—across his chest, tummy and thighs. They drew them slowly with reverent hands that lingered much longer than they were supposed to.

It made him feel cold even though the room itself was warm.

After what felt like forever to Felix. The reverend and the priestess had joined them by the fire. They scanned him and the others. The air couldn't be any more silent. Silence so heavy that it could crush him.

The priestess was the one to call him up. He was led to the center of the circle. Up the outside altar’s steps. His body shook with every step. That was when the crowd started to chant. Felix on the other hand was sobbing as he was made to lay down. The ropes going around his wrists and feet were enough to have the panic setting in.

He fought with every ounce of strength he had against every cut and whatever it was that they were forcing him to drink. It tasted awful, having the male gagging and coughing with what air he could hold onto. And then the worse part happened. The pain was just as intense as the ringing in his ears.

Felix barely got a glimpse of the dagger in his stomach before his head fell sideways, life slowly draining out of him.

When he woke back up. It was with a gasp. Then panting. Moaning. He felt weak but he also felt entirely different. He writhed around on the surface he was on. He wanted to get out of there.

The fire seemed to crackle louder as the crowd watched him silently—many of them touching themselves. Others rocked in place or prayed on their knees. Few were watching while bent over, letting their fellow worshipper fuck them from behind.

What they didn’t know was that they were just supplying him with enough power to make his escape.

How he made it out of there was all a blur to Felix. But he didn’t look back. Not once. Not that it mattered. His life was forever altered after that ritual.

And it was a downward spiral from then on. Everyone he touched. Even if they were just being nice, trying to help him. He went from perfect to dirty. Is what he told himself for years.

Until he got a hang of his powers and how they worked. It took a lot of experimenting. And he made a lot of poor choices in the learning phase. But it didn’t get better. The more he used his powers, the more he changed.

And as much as he tries to remain the Felix he was back home, with his family and his friends. He would never get that version of himself back. The version who didn’t need sex to survive. The version who didn’t have to isolate himself just to stop self destructing and bringing others down with him.

The version of him who didn’t attract unwanted attention wherever he went. All in all he wished he was invisible.

— as felix settled more into life in lunar city, he was starting to be open to making friends. he’s not planning to get any sexual gratification out of it, but eventually their attraction gets the best of them.
