<title>These stories reminded me of when I taught in a self-contained high school setting. I had a lot of students starting to take the bus/walk around the community, and it worries me that their race/diagnosis could put them in a dangerous situation. We want to create independence, but it can be scary with these factors </title>

<title>I am a quarter Black, so I often &quot;pass&quot; for white. In my home town where I grew up people knew by my name and family, however once I went away to college, and for my career later, I quickly realized that people would say racist things in front of me because they didn&#39;t know. This has happened numerous times in my adult life...very disappointing when I think I am bonding with someone (new friends/roommates/coworkers) to then find out and have to speak up about my heritage causing awkward moments and humiliation.</title>

<title>Just Being Aware of all the issues we addressed today is extremely useful when we interact, plan, evaluate each day. Thinking about how EACH of us has different experiences, come from different backgrounds (cultural, social, religious, etc...) will make me more aware of how each person might react/respond/contribute to the experiences we share, of how we can enrich each other, help each other grow to be the best individuals we can be.</title>
