To light up my photograph i used a reflector which reflects the suns light to what you are trying to take a picture of. 
2. The difference between f/1.8 and f/8 is that f/1.8 only focuses on one object and blurs out he background and f/8 gets a little of everything but still focuses on an object. I prefer f/1.8 when i have to focus on one thing but f/8 is great when want to get more of he background.
3. The key point of taking food photography is getting the right angle and knowing what aperture you want. Also knowing how to place the food and how to put extra details.
4. If i did this again i would probably pick a different food and zoom more into my picture.
