I know about England through movies and articles about England. Especially, I am studying civilized brother. I gain a better understanding of the history, geography and culture of England. What I like most is the British culture in communication and behavior.
Greeting
Although Westerners are bold and confident, the British are quite reserved in greeting. The common greetings of the people here are: Hello, Hi, Good morning. In addition, shaking hands is also a commonly used greeting; However, when shaking hands, you need to look the other person in the eye to show respect for each other.
For close friends, they can greet each other by lightly kissing each other on the cheek. This is a rather intimate act, so you need to carefully consider your relationship when applying this greeting.
Communicate
In British culture, people here prefer a polite, gentle and elegant style. Therefore, most people of British origin have a moderate voice, always control their tone, do not speak loudly and dance when speaking.
Even during intense arguments, they do not discuss loudly, but may instead have a drink or apologize to go out for a while. If you disagree or express disdain, the people here will only use humorous sarcasm to poke fun at the opponent.
Hours
Different from the "rubber" lifestyle of the Vietnamese, the British attach great importance to time. They are very punctual in all appointments and their private life is also arranged very scientifically. Therefore, if you have an appointment with the British, make sure you arrive on time; If you can't be on time, call the person you plan to meet and let them know in advance that you may be late to avoid being seen as impolite.
Skin
British people prefer comfort over formal and rigid business suits. However, in special occasions such as job interviews, meeting partners, you cannot be too "loose" in the way you dress.
Some notes on how to dress you need to keep in mind when discussing work with the British include:
Do not put pens or anything in the pocket of your shirt or vest.
Do not wear flashy ties.
Do not wear a tie with diagonal stripes.
How to eat
When you come to the UK, practice using a knife with your right hand and taking food with a fork in your left hand. Do not use a fork to cut food, then switch to another plate to eat like Americans.
When invited to a British home for a meal, you should bring a bottle of wine, a box of chocolates or a bouquet of flowers to show your gratitude to the host; For some less formal parties, you can bring drinks to enjoy together. After eating, you should put the knife and fork on the right side of the plate so that the host knows that you have eaten and do not want to use more food.
In addition, meals at luxury restaurants usually last from 7 to 11 pm. So if you're invited, take the initiative to finish the meal first to avoid awkward hostility.
