It has been, and likely always will be, a controversial topic all around the world, and all across the United States. Many Republican lawmakers have started drafting and proposing bills to restrict the treatment of the transgender youth. Talk of these restrictions has already negatively impacted the mental health of thousands of kids throughout the US, and there will be an even harsher decline in this health if these bills actually get passed in multiple states. Not only do these bills affect the trans community, but the rest of the LGBTQ+ community as well, who fear that this may be the first step to restricting their rights as well. There are other aspects to this issue that I’m interested in reading about in the future, and I’ll continue to follow the events as they unravel. At least 80 bills have been drafted in over 30 states, and many of them focus on whether or not transgender children should be allowed to play on the sports team that aligns with their gender identity. It is argued in this article that these bills are unnecessary, considering transgender youth only "make up less than 2 percent of the population".
     This podcast does definitely lean more towards the liberal side of this argument, but it is reliable and uses multiple sources and quotes to back up its information. It provides many reasons why the growing amount of anti-transgender bills being passed or proposed is a huge issue and could negatively affect the families of these youth.
Along with providing sources, it debunks the research behind the bills and provides counter-arguments. Dan Levin, who is featured as a guest and colleague in the transcript, argues that these bills target children and place them in vulnerable positions. Among these are a ban on gender affirming medications for minors in Alabama, a restriction of health care and the ability to play school sports in Montana, and a lift on the conversion therapy ban in Oklahoma. Despite the fact that many of these bills will not be passed, just the idea of them is enough to negatively affect children and promote prejudice against LGBTQ+ teenagers.
     This is a CNN article that includes many quotes and sources from their research of these bills. It is a well known fact that CNN is a left-leaning news source, but that doesn't mean that it's automatically unreliable. The article provides its readers with insight into how trans and non-binary residents of certain states are responding to the news, and the writer does not provide their opinion or make it clear that they favor a specific side in this controversial argument.
The mental health of trans youth and other young members of the LGBTQ+ community is mentioned in the article. This acts as a way to influence the reader into caring for the lives of the many children that have suicidal tendencies due to the hatred they feel from society. Not only does it put an entire generation of transgender youth at risk of violence and prejudice, but it would have a negative impact on the rest of the LGBTQ+ community as well. Gay, trans, and non-binary people have always been subject to never-ending hate in every country, and because there is no true way to eliminate bias against a specific group, they will be subject to it for a long time. However, just because we cannot eradicate homophobia and transphobia, does not mean that we cannot attempt to promote a more positive message. 
     If bills like these continue to be proposed, there is no telling how much worse this issue could get. How far are people willing to let the government go when it comes to placing restrictions on the LGBTQ+ community? Rather than educating others and acknowledging the possible outcomes of this situation, many people choose to remain ignorant and concern themselves with other matters that are arguably less important than this. It's argued that the executive order could begin to limit the opportunities of women in sporting careers. Many feminist groups across the country have expressed their concerns with allowing transgender women to play with cisgender women, and they are worried that this order will make it harder for young girls to succeed in sports in the future.
     Fox News differs from my other two sources in that its target audience is mostly republicans and conservatives. I wouldn't say that it's completely unreliable, but Fox is known for enabling misinformation when it comes to the LGBTQ+ community, specifically myths about transgender youth.
     This source doesn't help with convincing people to help trans youth fight against these bills, but it's arguable that it hides its points under false feminism.
