As seen in this illustration, the people are surrounded by cannons and smoke while America is in the background glowing. The cannons symbolize the bad conditions which these people are fleeing from, while America glowing in the background represents their chance at a new opportunity. Overall, this image represents what it means to be an American since it directly portrays the liberties, freedom, and new opportunities Americans have.
