For silicon diodes, the typical forward voltage is 0.7 volts, nominal. For germanium diodes, the forward voltage is only 0.3 volts. The chemical constituency of the P-N junction comprising the diode accounts for its nominal forward voltage figure, which is why silicon and germanium diodes have such different forward voltages. Forward voltage drop remains approximately constant for a wide range of diode currents, meaning that diode voltage drop is not like that of a resistor or even a normal (closed) switch. For most simplified circuit analysis, the voltage drop across a conducting diode may be considered constant at the nominal figure and not related to the amount of current.

Packaging Large Equipment on Pallets

The best method for transporting multiple pieces of large electronic equipment is to place them on pallets, bound by shrink-wrap. Large equipment may include computer desktop towers, laptops, monitors, televisions, printers, copiers, facsimile machines, and multi-function devices. When using pallets, make sure items are seated securely on the pallet and shrink-wrapped tightly from bottom up.

DO keep power cords with each piece of equipment.

DO remove ink and toner cartridges, removable electronic media (e.g., disks, CDs, DVDs, USB drives) and paper.

DON’T mix different types of electronics on one pallet. Pack all monitors together, all computers together, etc.

DON’T mix different size electronics in the same layer. It is acceptable to have different size equipment in separate layers.

DON’T include monitors or televisions with broken glass.

All external peripherals (keyboards, mice, etc.) should be packaged separately in boxes (see “Packaging Small Electronics or Electronics Peripherals in Gaylord Boxes” below).

· The dots are extremely small (usually between 50 and 60 microns in diameter), so small that they are tinier than the diameter of a human hair (70 microns)!

· The dots are positioned very precisely, with resolutions of up to 1440x720 dots per inch (dpi).

The dots can have different colors combined together to create photo-quality images.

Usage of the electronics

§ Check if all jumpers are in the 'closed' position on the MS1,2,3 inputs on the PCB. There is one exception, the Z-axis will be configured to 1/8th step, by not connecting the third jumper below this stepper motor driver. So: MS3 of Z should be open.

§ The electronics are mounted to the bottom of the machine, with a protective plate to help prevent short circuits and other kinds of damage to the board. When you've mounted the machine and want to test and tune your electronics, put your Ultimaker in the so-called 'Laid-back mode'.

§ You can use a 18 V power supply. Many power supplies that come with laptops will be between 18 to 20 Volts. A voltage from 12V through 20 Volts will work, but is not advised.

§ When testing, make sure you connect the power to the shield that is stacked onto the Arduino Mega, not into the Arduino Mega itself. The Mega is powered via USB. When the board in mounted to the machine, the Arduino power input will not be available at the side of the machine, but the one on the shield will. So we've got that covered!

§ For older boards without polarized connectors: Please make sure you connect themotors correctly. A mistake may lead to damage of your board and/or stepper drivers.

§ Starting from the 1.5.6 electronics, the electronics can be powered stand-alone. This may cause the fan and other electronics to run from your USB port. If you don't want this, you can 'open' the following jumper:

Inside an Inkjet Printer

Parts of a typical inkjet printer include:Print head assembly:

· Print head- The core of an inkjet printer, the print head contains a series of nozzles that are used to spray drops of ink.

· Inkcartridges- Depending on the manufacturer and model of the printer, ink cartridges come in various combinations, such as separate black and color cartridges, color and black in a single cartridge or even a cartridge for each ink color. The cartridges of some inkjet printers include the print head itself.

· Print head stepper motor- Astepper motormoves the print head assembly (print head and ink cartridges) back and forth across the paper. Some printers have another stepper motor toparkthe print head assembly when the printer is not in use. Parking means that the print head assembly is restricted from accidentally moving, like aparking brakeon a car.

· Belt- A belt is used to attach the print head assembly to the stepper motor.

· Stabilizer bar- The print head assembly uses a stabilizer bar to ensure that movement is precise and controlled.
