Estates General Meeting

May 1789
Abbe Sieyes

France filed for bankruptcy. It's finally happened, after all of the reckless spending that goes on in our country. I'm honestly shocked this didn't occur sooner. King Louis XVI was forced to call a meeting of the Estates General due to France's bankruptcy. The meeting of the Estates is an assembly of representatives from all three estates to get approval for the tax reform. I was ever so lucky to stand for the third estate. Louis's original solution was to impose taxes on the nobility. However, the second estate were the ones to call the meeting. The first one in 175 years! That's how you know that the country is in shambles.

Fall of the Bastille

July 1789
Jacques Necker

Not only was I fired as financial adviser of King Louis today, but a mob broke out as well. First of all, all i ever wanted was to stand for the third estate, but King Louis seems to disagree. Second of all, King Louis made the mistake of ordering troopers to patrol the streets of France. This caused people to believe that the King was going to overthrow the National Assembly. Then, this resulted in a mob as the people of France got angry over this possibility. People stole thousands of muskets, however they were useless without gun powder. But they knew exactly where to get it. They charged Bastille and stole the gun powder hidden inside. This has been the first act of violence I've seen. The revolution is only just beginning.

Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen

1793
Olympe de Gouges

A few years ago, in August 1789, noblemen motivated by their love for equality and liberty decided to join other members f the National Assembly. This ultimately destroyed the privilege of the first and second estates, killing the Old Regime. Then the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen were created. This document stated that "men are born and remain free and equal in rights." However, some of the principals stated in the document, such as liberty, equality, and fraternity did not apply to everybody. It didn't take me long to com up with the idea of the Declaration of the Rights of Women and Citizen. My ideas were immediately rejected. Now i'm being declared an enemy of the revolution! Women simply deserve the same rights as men, and if men kill me for believe this then that only further prove my point. I will not stop fighting for what I believe in.

October 1789
Marie Antoinette

I have never been so scared in my entire life as I was today. I truly believed that I was going to die at the hands of an angry mob today. A massive group made up of mostly women charged my home, chanting for bread. They were all so angry.I just barely escaped in time with my husband Louis and our children. Many of them had weapons such as knives, pitchforks, and muskets. My citizens hate me. They despite me even. They wish for my death and harass me to move. I'm willing to escape and leave them all far behind. These people would have tore me to pieces if they found me today. I can''t go back.

June 1791
Leopold II

My sister, Marie Antoinette, and her husband, King Louis XVI, tried escaping to Vienna with their children. I'm completely shocked at how much control they've lost in France. Louis was always a weak king but this is simply out of hand. The violence is outrageous in France, and he's only running from it all. Marie and Louis were only a mile from the Vienna boarder when they got caught. They were sent back to France, forced to deal with the mess of it. I don't see how France will get better under Louis's power though. There's been so many changes to the government as well that Louis doesn't know what he's doing. The ideas of the Enlightenment caused this and it has to stop. I will not let these ideas spread to other countries.

January 1793
King Louis XVI

I lost control of France. I've been losing control; however I've finally been stripped of my power. France is in shambles and I'm finally being punished for the damage that I've caused. The National Convention reduced my power from King to a common citizen and prisoner. The humiliation is nearly worse than the execution itself. I'm currently awaiting my execution as we speak. As of tomorrow, January 21, I will face the country that I once ruled. I will face the citizens with dignity and hold my head high while I can. I've accepted my fate. Despite awaiting my own death, I still fear for France. I want the best for this country. Robespierre is not the best for France and I fear that he will be the man to replace me.

Robespierre's Reign of Terror

September 1793 - July 1794
Georges Danton

Robespierre has become leader of the Committee of Public Safety, resulting in the "Reign of Terror". How this has happened, I wish I knew. He has become a dictator, governing France. I'm in imprisonment, awaiting my trail, as France falls to terror under Robespierre's power. He quickly terminates any person who he sees as a threat, and I can already see my short future ending at the hands of Robespierre at the guillotine. This monster has the audacity to justify his actions against France as well. He claims that the terror enables the citizens of France to remain true to the ideals of the revolution. However, I believe Robespierre has lost his own sight on the ideals of the revolution. He is simply power hungry, and nobody has yet to stop him. People are fearing for their lives, as well as myself. I can only hope that Robespierre show my head to the people. It's worth seeing.

July 1794
Maximilian Robespierre

My own members of the National Convention turned on me. I feel ashamed of my supporters. I ache for France. This country needs me. Everybody will realize it after I'm gone. The members of the National Convention apparently feared for their own safety, but if they aren't an enemy then why are they fearing me? Everything I've done was in the best interest of France, and I wouldn't have changed anything of how I governed. But alas, tomorrow, on July 28, I will face the guillotine.
