Lincoln was born in Kentucky, but grew up in Illinois in a small wooden cabin in the woods with his mother Nancy and his father Thomas and his sister Sarah. His younger brother Thomas passed away during his infant years. In the year of 1816 the family moved to the state of Indiana due to the land title difficulties they faced back in Illinois. Two years later in 1818 his mother Nancy passed away due to milk sickness, which devastated Lincoln's father. He was the 16th president of the united states and he lead the country through the bloody battles of the civil war in which he became victorious once again uniting the states. He was also opposed to slavery, especially the slavery of African Americans that still occured in the south. In the northern states, slaves were no longer present as people didn't work on farms, instead they moved to large cities and became modernised. But still the southern states remained in slavery since they still depended heavily on forced labor farming. 
Lincoln was a practical thinker. He didn't just send his soldiers in to attack residents of his own country. Instead he ended the civil war with pure skill and wise decision making. He showed people all over the world how to fight for what you want and achieve your goals successfully without killing each other. It wasn't until after his assassination that people began to realise the great impact he had left behind on America. The southerners despised him since he was trying to change their way of life that they'd know for years. People in the Northern states also were not overly impressed with how slow he was and how long he took to accomplish anything that he'd promised to achieve during his campaign. The US army questioned Lincoln's methods and were constantly mocking him over his lack of education, strange voice, and his appearance. He shared his thoughts with everyone trying to help them understand that all people should be accepted. Sadly many did not understand or accept his views, but now in the 21st century many more people look back at Lincoln and understand that he was right all along to be opposed to these things. He was a piece of clay that helped mould and shape America into "the free land of opportunity"
that it is so well known as today.

But in doing this he changed millions of lives for the greater good. He also signed and issued the emancipation proclamation, which freed slaves in opposing states. Inspire. He has inspired me to change my thoughts towards things. The biggest one would be accepting different races. If it wasn't for Abraham Lincoln, many people, including me, would still have a lot of hate filled thoughts towards people of a different race. 
Lincoln changed peoples thoughts and overall made the world a better place when it comes to acceptance and understanding.
He also changed my thought on slavery. I used to think slavery wasn't such big issue until I did my own research into slavery and Lincolns work and finally I realised what an important issue it was.
Lincoln changed his mind and challenged the laws, so we didn't have too.
Lincoln also saved the U.S from becoming divided into two different countries. If not for him it would be unimaginable what the united states would look like and it is unsure wether the states would have been reunited if it was not for Lincoln's tireless efforts and battles with the southern states.]]> 2018-02-28 04:24:48 UTC https://padlet.com/shanetaylor77777/i891c22o8lga/wish/236253991 shanetaylor77777 https://padlet.com/shanetaylor77777/i891c22o8lga/wish/237358533 During the mid 1800s, slavery was considered the norm in many states through the U.S, especially the southern states such as Texas, New Mexico and South Dakota. The biggest state afflicted with slavery was Louisiana, particularly on the farms in the city of New Orleans. 
Lincoln grew up in a strict baptist family, though he never joined any church or spoke about god in detail. Even though he himself were a christian man who had a strong belief and influence under gods word, it may be surprising to know that Lincoln rarely spoke about god. He barely even addressed the subject with his family either. It was only on rare occasions in which God was even mentioned. 
After a few years in the white house this changed. Lincoln began to refer to god and used quotes from the bible increasingly during his speeches to the public. Many people suspected that the reason Lincoln had become much more religious was because his child was ill and Lincoln had turned to god for help and reassurance. This turned out to be true. 
Since Lincoln was now under a much stronger influence of god, his mind set began expanding and the main issue that Lincoln saw in the U.S was the continuation of slavery in the southern states. Therefore Lincoln began a fight which took years to settle. This important issue is main reason why Lincoln wasn't a very popular man at the time of his presidency.
Lincoln was told by god that what was happening in the country was dead wrong and needed to be stopped immediately.
Residents in the south saw that Lincoln was trying to change what was happening, so they instantly began protesting against him since he was going to take away their way of life that they had known for centuries. Their further arguments and protesting is what lead America into the bloody cilvil war and the dividing of the southern states from the Northern states. This meant Lincoln had many more issues plaguing this country, which put more stress on him. He considered resigning from his position as president on multiple occasions over the years, but he managed to pull through and stay in the white house.
